wheelchair rentals in the parks

hello everyone, we are leaving in 13 days with in laws for their first trip ever to the world. my mil has issues with standing for long periods of time and walking long distances also, if we got to the parks at opening would we be able to rent a wheelchair there instead of all week. trying to save some money, only doing three days at park. thanks

Usually there are wheelchairs available for rent. If you are going during a busy time, ECVs (scooters) may have run out. Remember that it can be a lengthy walk to the wheelchair rental counter, even if you take the buses.

You can sometimes borrow a WC from the Disney resort where you are staying.

You may really want to consider an electronic wheelchair/vehicle (ECV) and your best bet is to rent one from one of the many agencies. Almost all of them delievery the ECV to your hotel so it is waiting for you at check-in. I used to do WDW without an ECV but after a bad accident that left me with back and leg pain, the ECV is a standard part of our trip budget. If the person is not old enough to use the ECV on their own (I think 15) then do the wheelchair. I tried walking at the Magic Kingdom without the ECV and ended up pushing myself to far and had to take the whole next day laying in bed in the hotel room. Having my own ECV was great since I did not have to worry about trying to get one at the parks (waiting in that line can eat up 40-60 mins right there) or trying to make do when the sell out. I hope things work out for you.

We've had no problems renting a daily wheelchair from the parks. Many people have recommended to me to use an ECV and, perhaps, I should. However, I'm just not comfortable with doing that. I'd be afraid of running into people. Plus, my boys and husband have always been fine pushing me and it is so much less expensive to rent a regular wheelchair.
