We are leaving in a few weeks for a Disney Cruise and my father in law just had knee replacement surgery and was thinking he should get a wheelchair for the cruise. Is there anyone we can rent a wheelchair from for a week cruise? and Do they deliver to the cruise terminal? Thanks for any help!

My mom had hip replacement prior to cruise out of NY and May of this year and we sail on the 29th out ot Port Canaveral. Both times she was able to arrange for a scooter to be waiting at the ship for her. Very convenient and made life easier for everyone because wheelchair use was limited to embarking & disembarking. I'm sure you can call DCL and ask for a vendor that they work with.

To my knowledge, Brevard Medical (http://www.brevardmedicalequip.com/) also delivers to the Port Canaveral terminal. The typical WDW-area vendors are not likely to deliver that far.

Note that unless you have an accessible stateroom reserved, he likely will need to fold the wheelchair and walk into the stateroom. The doors on a typical stateroom are not wide enough for most standard wheelchairs, nor is there space to get it past the bed if you managed to get through the door.

Enjoy your cruise!

I just ordered a wheel chair for my mom. We used Special Needs at Sea. If you booked with a travel agent- they will order it for you... Special needs & Disney indicated there are wheel chairs that can be used at the pier, and then the wheel chair you rent (we did a motorized scooter) will be in front of enchanted gardens with keys at guest services.

Booked our families cruise for next June..... can any one point me in the right direction to rent a wheelchair for my aunt. Looking online is hard, and we live in TX. Just to rent during our cruise. Thanks for the help in advance. ( still learning how to use this dis stuff lol)

Where are you cruising from? At Port Canaveral you can use Brevard quite easily.

we ended up using Special Needs at Sea much much cheaper than Brevard Medical, but you may want to call the cruise line because they may have a wheelchair on the ship that you can use free of charge. When we boarded the Fantasy this past August guest services advised us that they have wheelchairs on board free of charge on first come first serve basis, but you have to call the cruise line to request it in advance.

That's interesting! It's always been my understanding those chairs were for use by people who became injured during the cruise and therefore had no option to bring one onboard with them. Also doubly-interesting that DCL suddenly takes this stance when the WDW resorts have recently removed the wheelchairs they used to offer free.

@Ashworth2012 I've recently learned that Walker's Mobility also delivers to Port Canaveral. This could be particularly helpful for passengers planning a land-and-sea vacation with WDW and the cruise. The other vendors I'm aware who deliver to PC have been mentioned -- Brevard Medical and Special Needs at Sea. Personally, manual wheelchair rentals are relatively inexpensive. I'd rent one to make sure it's in good condition and the size you need. Depending on the length of your trip and her needs related to the wheelchair, it may also be less expensive to purchase a manual wheelchair or transport chair at home rather than renting.

Enjoy your cruise!

We used Brevard Medical in June to rent a wheelchair for my daughter, who had a broken leg. They delivered the chair to our stateroom and we borrowed a wheelchair from the port until we got to the room. The chair we rented was in great condition, but the ones on board were in much worse condition and we were glad she didn't have to use them the whole trip.

Don't count on getting a wheelchair on the ship. We are renting from Special Needs At Sea since we are doing the Panama Canal cruise and need a vendor that will deliver and pick up from different ports. As posted Brevard is good and Walker now delivers to the port. We have used Walker and they delivered it to the Hyatt Airport. We used Buena Vista when we had them deliver it to the resort hotel, then we took it on the cruise, then returned back to the resorts.
