My father lives in a retirement community about an hour from WDW.
Life there is (for a lack of a better word) extremely boring.

We would like to take him around WDW

He is not a park person but we would like to take him around the Epcot / Hollywood studios hotels.

Can we rent a wheelchair for him at one of the hotels, downtown disney?

Hotels don't rent wheelchairs; they have some for use by their guests in case of urgent need.
Downtown Disney rentals require a fairly big deposit and are really only for use at DtD.

Call Buena Vista Scooters. They're right on the boardwalk, and they rent more than just scooters. Or see if the retirement community has wheelchairs its residents can borrow.

I rented from Walker Mobility earlier this year and was VERY pleased!!!

So, Can we rental a wheelchair in DtD and bring it on the bus to boardwalk then back to DtD?

No, it can't leave DTD, in fact you aren't supposed to take it out of the Marketplace area, but people do. I think the depost it $100

I use Walker Mobility, they would have to meet you with the rental, but they have the best prices. There no deposit with Walker and the girls int he office are great, they even know me by name.

Are you planning several days in DW or just a one day visit? If it's a longer visit having one available for the full length of the trip would be easier on your Father. Although you're not planning to go to the parks, there's still a lot of walking between the rental site and your Father's resort room if you're borrowing on a daily basis. Here's a link to a thread from the disABILITIES board that has a lot of info on renting wheelchairs in post #2:

It's also very possible the retirement community your Father lives in has extra wheelchairs available.

What everyone is saying is to not rent from Disney World because the wheelchairs there cannot leave their area. And the resorts do not rent wheelchairs.

So, rent from offsite - there are plenty to choose from. They will deliver the chair to your resort and then pick it up when you are done. They even do this for offsite hotels.

Very easy to do and I had to do it once just a day before we left. Painless with one phone call.
