Is there whelelchair lift taxi's at the airport MCO? We need a ride to an off Disney property first. Will be staying at WDW for 6 nights following. Thanks

There are only about six accessible taxis in Orlando. You might want to call Mears at 407-422-2222 since they seem to control most of these to be able to set up for one of them to meet you at the airport. Or at least find out from them what to do.

You want to call Yellow taxi, they are run by Mears and have about 50 taxis that can handle a wheelchair. Expect your wait to be 30-45 minutes.

I guess I should have asked are you discussing a power chair or a regular wheelchair. I would still suggest calling Mears to find out.

Can you transfer if needed? I don't know exactly what you mean by "does not fold", but I have a rigid manual wheelchair where I can take the wheels off and if I absolutely have to the back kinda folds down onto the seat, but even without folding, if I take the wheels off I can get it into most cabs (including sedan styles ones) in NYC, where I live. I just transfer to the regular seat.

I don't know if this is an option, but it might be worth looking into if there are any issues getting an actual wheelchair accessible cab. (I do recognize that this is Orlando and there should be much less problem with finding a wheelchair accessible taxi than in NYC.)

There are wheelchair taxis with five doors. What I used to call 'estate wagons'. The driver opens the rear tailgate door, folds out a ramp, possibly folds the rear seats depending on the length of your wheelchair/ECV and you roll right in, sitting in your chair. He straps you down, and away you go.

Cheshire is out of date with his estimate of numbers of wheelchair taxis. There are now far more than six. I believe there are now at least twelve operating in & around Disney & Orlando airport.

I last visited Disney in October 2008.

I had to call for two separate wheelchair taxis at the airport. Each taxi arrived within 15 minutes.

(long story - involves a powerchair broken by airline, a wheelchair repair/rental service closed for the day, airport wheelchairs with flagpoles to stop them being loaded into taxis, spare parts that need to be ordered from Denmark and RCFD having to lift me into my replacement chair every morning for the next five days and once from the deck of a Friendship boat at International Gateway!! )

A few days later I took a wheelchair taxi to Publix. Boardwalk bell services called for one, which arrived within 15-20 minutes. Called one to return from Publix - arrived within 30 minutes.

On my return to airport, Magic Express sent a bus without wheelchair access. They sent a wheelchair taxi within ten minutes and I probably got to the airport before the bus!

I am not certain pugdog is right with his estimate of 50 wheelchair taxis, but there are certainly a lot more than six now.

Thank you all so much. All this information helps. My son is in a power chair at home but has a hard time driving in crowds. So we bring his manual chair it is a 2 part top and bottom. To take apart we have to hold him and take apart his chair and place the cushions from his chair on a seat and work him into the seat. We have done it. Its a lot of work. So we are hopping to find a lift van to just tie him down. I wll call mears to make sure we have a ride. Thanks again
