Hello! I hope I've picked the correct board to post this on! We'll be in THE world in 3 weeks! :cool1: Cast includes me, DH, DD DS, Dsis, DBIL, Ddad and Dmom. Problem...mom is mini-pooh sized and recently re-injured her knee; she also has some feet/swelling problems due to a stroke 13 years ago. Now, since then she has walked down, and up the Grand Canyon...twice... So, this is no couch potato!

Since her recent knee injury though, she has been slow on move. So my dad thinks maybe we should find something for her to use during their 3-day stay. She would be fine waiting in lines, but getting around the world would be a challenge. Can someone tell me my options? I believe wheelchairs and EVCs (these are the things you sit in and drive, right?) are available, but where can I rent them and for how much? How do I reserve them? We are staying at POP if that makes a difference. I think she'd rather be in an EVC than a wheelchair. :scratchin

Thanks for any help you can give! :thumbsup2

Go to the disABILITES board and click on the FAQ sticky on top. It will give everything you need, price ,where to rent and lots of other things.

If you go to the top of this board and click on the disABILITIES FAQs thread, you will find information about the various ways/places to rent ECVs and wheelchairs. It includes a list of places DIS posters report good experiences renting from (including Randy's).

DH and I went to the World last March. I also was suffering from knee problems (which would lead to surgery a couple of months later). We were staying at CBR, where you could rent a wheelchair for the length of your stay, but we opted to rent a chair in each park at the beginning of the day. It was only $8/day, as we rented a standard wheelchair. More economical for us and DH got a good workout! We were at our parks right when they opened and went right over and rented our chair. No serious lines that I recall. The only downside with said wheelchair is that it is rather uncomfortable to be stuck in all day long (we took a towel for me to sit on to add some extra cushion). Disney cms were awesome about working with us at the lines, restaurants, and shows. It's always special to have someone actually look at you when you're sitting in a wheelchair. :)

Good luck and have a blast!!

"rent" might not be the right word--correct me someone if i'm wrong, but i think the resort chairs are still free-of-charge, assuming they have one for you when you arrive. they cannot be reserved.

As far as I know, you are correct.
The resorts loan out wheelchairs, if they have one available. They take an imprint of your credit card as sort of "collateral" and put a "hold" (I think about $200) on the card. When the chair is brought back, the credit card slip is destroyed.

Forgive me. Like I said, it was a year ago and we did not pursue that option (too much of a hassle getting chair to parks and such)

Actually it's not a hassle to use a wheelchair at WDW. It;s very easy. A hassle is trying to find a parking spot here in MN that doesn't have a snowbank in the way or corner curb cuts not shovled out. THAT'S a hassle.
