Wheel House on the Mark Twain?

I have heard that Disneyland is currently not allowing people to ride the tender on the Disneyland Railroad. Does anyone know if they are allowing people to ride in the wheel house on the Mark Twain? Doing those 2 things are some of my favorite things to do at Disneyland, and I am making a very quick trip out there this weekend. Thanks for any info.

I have heard (not personally confirmed) the Wheel House is now a "pixie dust" experience, where CMs randomly invite guests -- rather than an experience guests can request.

Please share how the Wheel House and Tender work out for you.

Thanks! Will do!

If anyone else has any info on this, I would really appreciate it.

I'm going on Sunday as well and was going to offer to check. But since you're already going... Keep an eye out for me ;-).
This is a very quick trip for me. I will be there Friday and 1/2 of Saturday due to something I have to be at, so sadly I won't be able to look for you. Have fun! :)

I'd definitely like to know as well! We did it for the first time three years ago and it was a lot of fun. We did have to wait, though. We're going next week, so if no one else is able to post before then, I will.

I'll definitely post on Friday when i find out unless someone reports back before then.

Aloha,

My family and I were refused entry during our summer DLR trips in 2016 and 2015. Last time we were allowed in the wheel house was 2012. Our appeals at Guest Relations/ Customer Service were also denied.

Sorry you weren't able to do it. I don't know a reason why. I do know that they tend to not allow people to ride in the wheel house in the morning, if people are training, or if there is a long line. It also could depend on how many VIP tour guests are in the park that day since they always get 1st priority and a CM always made sure to tell me that if I decided to wait. There might have been other reasons why you were not able to ride in the wheel house. I know I was able to ride in the wheel house in 2015. My trips in 2016 happened when the Mark Twain was closed since it closed January 10, 2016 for the construction. I wasn't there so I can't tell you if I was able to ride in it up until its closing.

Engineers have told us that riding tender is only allowed on 2 (?) engines and only when the weather is cool enough to be safe for guests. So you have to hit the right weather and a time when the right engine is on the track. Posters on other boards have reported recently that they weren't allowed on the third deck of the MT because Disney doesn't want guests seeing/photographing construction along the river. If this is correct, maybe this would explain why rides in the wheelhouse are on hold for now.

That makes sense. Thank you...About the tender though...I heard on the DisUnplugged podcast that they wouldn't be doing it until the fall. I do know that they don't run the tenders when it is at a certain degree outside. That goes for the same with riding in the front of the monorail.

You also can't ride tender if they will be stopping in NOS for water or if they anticipate having to wait for anything to cross the tracks. You could always offer to wait for the full circuit, but they might still say no.

I went into the wheelhouse when MT was first parked and then tried again with a different group about a month later and was told it was for VIP tours until further notice. I haven't tried again since it started running. I've done it twice and that's more than many, so I'm happy with the experiences I've already had.

Thank you for your report...I forgot about not being able to ride tender if they are getting water at NOS.

I would like to report that I was just standing in the wheel house of the Mark Twain! :) The CM said this morning when I asked that some Captains allow it and some don't. I'm glad I caught a Captain that allowed me to do it! There are other circumstances that might not allow people to stand up there. There was also no wait for it.
