How do you continue to get around the parks when it starts raining? My dd's wheel chair is a stroller type convaid and a poncho only seems to get it wetter!
My dad used an eletcric wheelchair. We found him a rain jacket that went over his head that had a great hood. It had a front zipper to allow air in if he wanted. The front of the jacket was really long and had elastic at the bottom and was wide as well. You put that portion of the jacket over his feet/feet holders and over the arms/electric control. It kept him really dry. We found it years ago in a disabilty resources catalog.
It was so great that my mom held on to it after he passed. I recently used it on a scooter in wdw during a brief rain shower. Worked for me too.
My son uses a Convaid, and the rain is a hassle for us, too. Ponchos seem to get tangled up in the wheels. And he is adult sized, it is a large chair.
The worst part, my son gets upset when the chair gets wet, and when he gets wet. I see no real solution, we just try and stay out of the rain, or give up and return to our resort.
You hit on the problem exactly PatMcDuck. It really was a problem the last time we were at Disney. I keep thinking there must be a better way to do it that I just have not figured out. Unless someone has a brilliant idea, I am thinking I am going to have to try to rig something. THe other problem with DD's chair is that it has a stroller handle. So you can't really put a poncho over the handle but there is also no way to put it over the back of the chair. I just keep thinking I am missing the obvious!
Has anyone tried any of the rain ponchos that are made for wheelchair use? They look like they are meant to go over the back of the chair and is longer in the front to cover the riders legs.
I have not. I live in the desert. On the two days a year it rains, we stay inside! I was thinking of trying to rig something like that for my DD's chair out of an adult poncho. I think it would be easier if we could just keep it from raining while we are there!
thanks for the link! I may order one before my next trip (March).
We used to go to WDW in August, so rain was a daily thing. Now I try and take DS in March and October, when the weather is usually better. But, you never know.
What about one of the stroller umbrella holders? They clamp onto the handles of regular strollers and some will hold a large golf umbrella. Sorry, I don't have a link...
