My friend, that we are going on our trip with, has just been diagnosed as 'fructose intolerant'. This means she can't eat or drink anything wheat based or sugary, particularly fruit sugars. It is a bit of a nightmare, what with Paris being croissant and bread heaven, but better she avoids and doesn't get poorly and has a nice time :thumbsup2

My food plan so far is.

Day 1 : Lunch : Agrabah Cafe - veggy friendly for me & DH adored the meats at Xmas so I'm hoping my friend will do too. There are plenty of salads / rice to accompany the meats. Also, she is a Mint Tea junkie, so double :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Dinner : Cafe Mickey - parks shut at 8, so I thought eating after 8, we'd be hungry again and she could choose a meal, i.e. fish & chips, even the kids option if we're not that hungry.

Day 2 : Lunch : :confused3 don't know.

Dinner : Inventions - Main park closes at 7, undecided at whether to book for 7.30 or 6. We were there for 6 at Xmas & it was great, downside being we'll miss the last hour, when we could potentially do lots of rides. Food wise I know there are tons of delicious food options for my friend.

Day 3 is just River & I in the parks, & I'm not worried about that.

A lot of the counter service menus on DLRP Magic have chicken salad on them. Has anyone tried these recently?
The salads at Earl Of Sandwich sound nice.

Hs anyone else got any suggestions for the wheat free options? I'd like to be able to give my friend lots of options.

With allergy options to be considered I would think about contacting Disney.
That way they can ensure the chefs consider the best options for your friend.

I have to say we found they weren't that great on food allergies at DLRP (but I think that is France in general tbh).

There is a sticky at the top about allergies - you can get vacuum packed meals at DLRP which are guaranteed to be free of any allergens. We never tried them but to be honest, they never looked that great.

Hopefully your friend will be able to pick at buffets as you are suggesting :).

Your friend will probably have received advice concerning their choices when eating out, but should be careful with coatings such as batter and sauces which will almost definitely have flour in them.

A scary amount of food also has sugar added (savoury foods often contain sucrose or fructose) - your friend's level of intolerance is going to dictate whether you need to talk to a chef, or only buy or bring foods you can be certain are ok.

If you don't speak French, it might be worth having a few stock phrases written down so that your requirements aren't lost in translation!

You're being a really considerate friend, I'm sure your friend appreciates your thoughtfulness.

Worth bringing a little card with you with the French translations of things she's intolerant to. Then you'll be OK to at least point to things!

We went in 2006 with my niece who has coeliacs and it was a NIGHTMARE. We wrote down the phrases, and ended up in mcdonalds where she could only have fries, she still ended up poorly afterwards so they were possibly contaminated. We went to one restaurant that we were assured sold gluten free food, she ended up with a portion of chicken stew that looked and tasted like baby food - she wouldn't touch it, and as she's also diabetic, not good!
The contamination is something you need to be aware of. Fish and chips, the fish will be coated in batter, and chips are likely to be fried in the same oil, therefore contamination.
Sauces often have flour in them to thicken them up.
Salads - be careful of them containing crutons or dressings that may contain flour.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thank you soooeeee much everyone.

My friend is intolerant, rather than allergic, so I don't think we need to worry about cross contamination etc, and I really, really feel for those who are. I'm a veggy so my choices are limited but people with allergies :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Carrie that card is excellent, even more thanks :goodvibes

I feel very sorry for the lady that drove from Disney Village to the hotels & couldn't get in the car parks . . . I was practically shouting at the iPad . . . . WALK . . . even though I know it's too late. I felt very, very sorry for her :sad1:

It looks like this is an area DLP need to have a look it.

Can you book the restaurants in advance if you're not staying in Disney Hotels? When I rang to book at Xmas they asked which hotel I was staying in. Or do I need to City Hall book when we arrive?

Just over a week to go . . . Is it single digits yet . . . *waits to see ticker*
