I've decided I hate moving. I'm not thrilled with packing/unpacking, moving boxes for days, and hauling stuff all over the place. And then there's all the problems you don't have control over!

Last time DFi moved, it was from another city into the one he's currently in. We packed up his apartment, arranged for a moving truck to move the stuff more or less at their leisure and took a trip to DL. At the airport on the way home DFi checked his voicemail and there was a message from the moving company that they had overbooked and while his stuff was in the new city, they wouldn't be able to deliver it until several days after the contract date.

Spent quite a while on several phones, calling the company and my office etcf. Told the moving company that if they couldn't deliver when they had agreed to that they'd be paying for the hotel/food/clothing required for the inbetween days. Lo and behold they were suddenly able to deliver only 1 day late, and they did pay for hotel & food.

This time DFi moved within the city. Rented a U-Haul, packed the stuff up and his students/staff pitched in to help with the move. There were 2 casualties - one expensive framed poster that DFi dropped which can be reframed, and a desk that was totalled. Oh well, it was a cheap desk.

Cable guy came to install the additional cable outlets, the internet outlet, and transfer the services. Well he installed 1 outlet, said he couldn't do the other, and then just set us up for basic cable only and no internet! He also showed up over 1.5 hours early, which would normally be fantastic except that he came before the stuff from the apartment so we couldn't test anything. We didn't get everything unpacked until Saturday night, and that's when we discovered we didn't have our channels or the internet service. I called the cable company and complained, and had a supervisor here yesterday who got everything up and running and even installed the outlet that the cable guy said couldn't be installed. Yay!

Sunday we went out and purchased a replacement desk (and a few other things). Salesman said it could be delivered Monday. When paying for it we were told nope, sorry, Monday is booked it will have to be done Tuesday, 10am. Okay, Tuesday at 10am it is. 10 comes and goes, no delivery. Same with 11. I call them at 11:30 and I'm told that gosh there was a mistake made because they don't start delivering until 11am, and the stuff should be here by noon. A little after 1 the delivery guy shows up (courier), and says sorry it's a little late, they didn't call him to deliver it until around noon! Now how are they supposed to have the stuff here before 12 when they haven't even arranged the courier by that time?!

Well I have the stuff now, so I guess I can take my frustrations out by hauling it downstairs and assembling everything :)

These are minor rants, but I know other people have far more interesting moving stories. What's yours?

DH and I have been married 13 years and we have moved 15...yes 15 times!!! I must say I'm quite good at it now, even though I hate it. I can look at just about anything and tell you if it will fit in your space. We've lost dresser drawers, pillows and various other odds and ends. Also moving refrigerators and freezers, washers and dryers is NOT fun. Ok- I'm 4'11", not a musclebound giant! However I have some pretty big "moving muscles"
We rented a Uhaul one time and it broke down right smack in the middle of our trip. Luckily it was a local move and we could call family, but DH still had to stay with the truck. 8 hours later a tow truck showed up (around 2 am). They towed it to our storage shed and left it. I did get my money back for that.
This house is our "starter" home and I hope to only move 1 more time - To our "dream "home.
I don't know how many times I've said "Can't we just buy all new stuff?!?"

My brother moved a few weeks ago on a Saturday. He hadn't moved for 8 years. (a record for him!) He's disabled, so instead of moving him ourselves, we all chipped in for movers. (short move - just a few towns apart). Well....the movers didn't show at all! When my sister called them, they just said they were over-booked! She kept calling around until she found a couple of guys to do it that afternoon! Whew!

Our first big move - from our apt to our first house in the suburbs, we called in ALL our markers! (you know, people who owed us favors!) We rented a U-Haul truck, which then broke down as we were getting off the freeway in our new town. The company sent out another truck, so then we had to unload the broken-down truck and reload the new one. ugh!

We've been here for 4 1/2 years - our last house for 13 years!

When we moved from IL to FL last year, we rented a huge moving truck for DH and his buddy to drive down. I drove our truck myself a different route, stopping at my parent's house en route to spend the night. When we rented the truck, the rental agent told DH he would have to stop at the weigh stations...no biggie. Until they got to the first weigh station and the officials (police?) told him he needed a CDL to drive a truck that long!! Thankfully they finally let DH and friend go, because otherwise, they would have been stuck there in the middle of IL with all our possessions....
So not really a nightmare, just an almost nightmare.

Moving makes me break out. I HATE IT!!!!!!!

When I moved last Feb, it was 7 years since the last move. I had so much GARBAGE that I had to dispose of. I don't know where all that stuff came from or where it was hiding.

I think it took me 3 months to finally fully unpack. But now that it is all done, it is worth it. This place is mine and Wells Fargos and I don't have to give my earnings to the greedy landlord anymore. He made my last move a nightmare. we didn't want to move at all. We were having a merger at work and I wasn't sure if we would be relocating or not and I didn't want to have to move twice in a year. His friend wanted our place (sight un-seen) and offered $400 more a month for it. My roommate couldn't afford that increase and Iwasn't willing to fork over the whole increase on my own. It was so stressful.

Of course, now I find out I will be re-located (same state, but 45 minute commute from here). Totally stinks. If he didn't have that friend over for a party one night, then i would still be there, and I would have bought a house closer to where I will be working.

Oh well. I do love my new neighborhood, and my condo is so hip.
