What's your opinion of reclining seats?

Since dudspizza started the controversy, what's your opinion on reclining the seat?

  • Fine in First and Business, but Coach is cramped enough already

  • Fine in Coach - it's so cramped we NEED to recline

  • Go ahead, recline your seat anywhere in the plane, I'll get my nose fixed later

  • Fine for everybody _except_ dudspizza (for starting the whole thing ;))

  • Fine for ONLY dudspizza... short poll-writers, of course :D

Funny poll...but I LOVE polls!!

If everyone reclines, then it's the same amount of space. Right?:confused3 I say recline!:thumbsup2:goodvibes

The seats are made to recline. Why shouldnt you recline. I dont recline more that a tiny bit just to make it so I am not straight up. My back couldnt take sitting straight up.

Oh, rats - I knew I forgot an option! Note to self: consult with Scrubba prior to creating future polls!

Just so you know - your seatback actually isn't at a 90º angle to the floor (i.e. perpendicular, i.e. straight up). It already leans back - more than your kitchen or dining chairs, for sure, and if you have a job where you're seated all day, most likely more than the chair in which you work.

I think most people are use to slouching or reclined in most of their seated positions. For me, I actually find slouching more uncomfortable for long periods then sitting mostly vertical/straight up/down. One thing I've noticed, since we bought our first Volvo, we tend to have more proper posture seated, somewhat in part to the design of the seats in the car and how your head hits the head rest.

AWWW shucks!

I forgot about some of those last rows though...they do NOT recline. So those folks really do have a cramped flight. So in that case...if the last row does not recline I change my vote.:lmao:

I hate it when the person in front of me reclines. There is so little room on most planes already, that it truly intrudes on my space. If I then reclined, I'd be doing the same thing to the person behind me - a vicious circle.
Now I'm not saying I blame anyone who choses to recline. I blame the airlines themselves for trying to cram us in like sardines. I realize they're trying to maximize profits, but it shouldn't be done at the expense of client comfort, IMHO.

No kidding....and he is followed by that nasty, stirrer-upper kaytieeldr!! Sheesh you guys.

But in any case...I seldom recline. If I do, it's only a very small amount. I find it more comfortable to remain upright. Especially on a shorter flight...I mean come on, who's sleeping on a three hour flight to MCO!!
If, and that's a bit 'if', people would check behind them before jerking their seat backwards, it might be easier to accept reclining. But the prevailing mentality that 'it's my space, and I'm gonna recline, so get over it' makes for some annoyed passengers.
Why is there so much of the 'you first, right after me' mentality lately????

Keep it polite kids...otherwise, this is getting shut down.:hippie:

If you want more legroom pay for a seat with it.

I seldom recline in coach. There's just not enough room and I really prefer not to fly with some one sitting in my lap.

OP you forgot option:

I only recline when kid behind me won't stop kicking my seat

:littleangel:

Sure, but sometimes that isn't an option. Some airlines don't have any seats with extra legroom. And sometimes those 'extra legroom' seats are the exit row seats, which won't allow certain passengers to sit in...so if my 6'4" dh wouldn't have been able to take those exit row seats, with the extra leg room, when he was flying with dd when she was 10.

It isn't anyone's 'right' to recline. It is an option. If it were a 'right', there would be compensation of sorts if the seat you paid for didn't recline, and you wanted to. It would be like paying for that extra leg room only to find that your seat didn't really offer extra legroom for some reason.

It's time for all parties to just try and get along...try to see things from other points of view. One person's wants/needs shouldn't negatively impact someone else. What is so hard about looking around to be sure you aren't disturbing someone else? What is so hard about allowing someone to recline a bit to be more comfy???
Man.....sure does seem to be a sense of entitlement on both sides of this one.

:thumbsup2 I actually do very rarely recline - and even then, I check with the person behind me first. But, for access reasons, I've lately usually been in the bulkhead on JetBlue flights - and STILL I turn around and ask the person behind me if they mind if I recline just a little. And they're already in one of those extra-legroom seats with the 38" pitch

I will recline my back needs it however it is usually my DH seated right behind me or another family member.

Except for the poor sucker stuck in the last row, bumped up against the bathrooms so they can't recline.

I am not a fan of reclining in coach and wish the airlines would go to non-reclining seats. We just flew recently and I felt so bad for my 16 yo 6'3" son, who has legs from here to Tuesday, and had his knees jammed up to his lap when the person in front of him decided to recline.

I will admit though, to checking the poll option that reclining is okay for everyone except for dudspizza. He is from MN, as am I, and I need to work to dispell the "Minnesota Nice" theory.

Need another option on the poll:

Depends on the situation.

If a small child is behind me I will generally recline. If its a adult/larger person and a short flight (usually 3 or less hours) I don't recline. If its a long flight but not an international/overnight flight I recline a little bit but not all the way. For an international/overnight flight I recline when its time to sleep.

Pretty simple right...:)

I'm kind of a hypocrite. I usually recline even in coach, but also try to get the bulkhead so no one reclines into me.

Its a feature equipped to the seat, it is your feature to use if you choose to. If you want extra leg room, book a different airline, your lack of planning should not be an inconvenience to me.
