What's your favorite white wine in the "World"?

Actually, Conundrum is made by Caymus Vineyards in rather large quantities (several thousand cases each year) and is widely available in wine stores across the country.

Correct. Its quickly becoming the new American table wine. Of course, it is more highly allocated than many of your grocery store brands, so it's a matter of perception.

From the AKL store we love the 2004 Waterside Sauvignon blanc produced by Graham Beck. We have a five star rating system with 1*- never again and 5*-to die for. This is a 5* wine for us. We have tried other wine from Graham Beck and they have all rated 4* and 5*(they were all reds). Good luck with your quest. :)

Thank you, I'm adding that to my list.

Seems I am in the minority here but I am a chardonnay lover who only wants BUTTERY AND OAKY...if i wanted fruity I would drink reisling or something else! Anyway, the real point of my post is to mention that at Kona Cafe in Nov., our server brought out samples of three different chardonnays for us to taste before we settled on the Happiest Celebr. feature chardonnay which was Buena Vista...very good and reasonably priced. I have since bought it a the grocery store. It is not my all time favorite (that would be Sonoma Cutrer) but is a good chardonnay widely available at Disney and it pleased everyone in our group of 6 women, even those who are not chardonnay lovers! Thought it was nice that the server let us try different ones before ordering bottles for our meal.

In regards to the Conundrum, I know that several of the better wine stores in NYC would only allow me to purchase 2 bottles at a time, and they usually only were able to get 6-12 at any given time. Here in NC, I cannot even find it at the 2 wine stores that I have been in here in Asheville. I can get it through the restaurant at the hotel that my partner works for.....but again, only in limited quantities.

The information that I posted in my original post about Conundrum came from a server at the Coral Reef.....who first introduced me to the wine. If I was incorrect in providing that information, I certainly do apologize. I am glad that there are other Conundrum lovers out there, and that the wine is becoming more accessible....Now, if only it would come down in price along with that accessibility!

Not to dis (ha!) Conundrum, but if you like non-chardonnay whites, Conundrum really might not be your style.

Conundrum is a very ripe (even sweet at times) white with a blend of 9 different grape varietals. One of the largest percentages is the chardonnay grape, and this wine is definitely created in the California style.

I found the Conundrum at Trader Joe's (24.99) and you were right, Mary, it's a bit too sweet for me. I'm still looking for the other suggestions.

We love sharing a 1/2 bottle of champagne whilst dining on the patio of the Brown Derby.

I love Hogue Late Harvest Riesling first tried it at Artist Point.
I drink white infrequently, as I agree with the French philosopher who once said that all you needed to know about wine could be summed up in one word--red. But, I digress. Though ratings only tell part of the story (you have to like the particular varietal, for example), I believe the Hogue Riesling above ('03 vintage) is rated 90 by Wine Spectator. We sell it at my wine shop, in fact. AP has a very good list overall, as they specialize in some of the Pacific Northwest's best. Hard to go wrong with any choice at AP.

Short anecdote here about AP. My wife and I decided upon the wine flight with our meal a few years back, but couldn't decide which of three wines to have with our entree. Our server brought out samples of all three, free of charge, and let us decide from that tasting and her own excellent knowledge. To me, that's excellent service and one reason why we always return to AP on every trip. Elakoon! :drinking1
