Never been to the Florida Keys but we are thinking about taking a short trip in the fall for my 30th birthday. I'm totally clueless.... any opinions or suggestions??

Thanks... as always :teeth:

Which ever one I'm on :cool1: I don't think there is a bad one. If you want to party go all the way to Key West. If you want to fish try the middle keys. Have fun.

Key West is by far my favorite Key. Get a moped and travel the back streets. You'll find lots of great surprises and some very cool people. Don't forget to see Sunset Festival. There are lots of great places to eat in Marathon, lots of cool beaches all up and down the Keys. Don't forget to visit the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon. They do an awesome job there. I met my X husband there while he worked there. I don't hold it agaisnt them ;)

Lots of tourist traps type places, make sure to travel off the main road.

My favorite key is the one that opens the door to my room at the wilderness lodge :teeth:

I've only been to Key Biscayne, and it was just for a few hours. It was fun though, I think. I don't remember now that I think about it :confused3

The good thing about the keys is that they are small enough to visit them all if you have a bit of time and a rental car. To me, the best is driving up and down stopping at a tiki bar by the beach then drive some more and stop for some grouper chowder then drive some more and see key deer, etc. etc.

Ahhhhhh I really want to head down there and show my husband around (used to live there) but we never are able to get beyond Orlando. ;)

Hmmm... the key to my house!

Other than that, I'd like to see Key West again, especially since I didn't get to see the museums last time and there's a new pirate museum there.

I live about an hour north of the Keys. Here is where we are staying next month for a few days. http://www.oceanpointesuites.com/ I'll let you know how it is. I have been to Key West..nice, but nothing special for how far you have to drive. Ocean Pointe is only about 10 minutes from Islamorada. Holiday Isle is fun.

Islamarada.

OMG!! I forgot about Islamarada! I had many great nights there in my younger days....ummm....indulging a bit too much on the rum runners :drinking1 Back in my no obligation, no committment, no kid bikini days. It's hard to believe I was a bikini wearing, rum runner drinking freedom fool!

DEFINATELY THE KEY TO MY HOUSE!!!! :cool1: :thumbsup2

Siesta Key is beautiful with great beach sand.

Islamorda, it's in the middle of the Florida Keys and is extremely isolated and quiet. Perfect for a nice vacation.

Islamorada hands down, Looe Key for scuba and snorkeling. everyone should go to Key West once in their lives just to experience it. Bahia Honda is very nice as well.

Love them all! Although Key West is the place to go for a party! party:

Little Palm Island Resort on Little Torch. :thumbsup2

I prefer the middle and lower keys myself (Marathon on down). I would highly recommend seeking out some key deer on Big Pine Key. They are soooo cute and you can just about see them everywhere.
Like everyone says, head to Key West if you like the nightlife and like to boogie!!! :cool1:

The middle keys are pretty laid-back, though.

Whatever you decide, you will have an awesome time!!!

My hubby & I drove down to the keys on our honeymoon (over 7 yrs. ago, now - wow, time flys!) Anyhow, We really liked Key Largo. Our snorkling trip at John Pennekamp Park was super Fun! Liked Key West too - Lots to do there! (originally I thought I'd like Key West best & although I Did like it alot....I think that Key Largo had more of a laid back atmosphere & I liked that). Watching the Sunset at Mallory Park in Key West was wonderful (I think it's a Must for anyone heading down to the keys!) I liked the fact that you could look out onto the water & see Cuba - Cool! Also, the performances after sun down....those were something I'll never forget! I would Love to go back there someday to explore again! Hmmmm after typing this & reading it back through, I now would have to say that it's a toss up between Key Largo & Key West as being my Favorites! :scratchin

Have a Great time in the keys! :sunny: :goodvibes
