I was just wanting some book recommendations and thought this would be a great place to ask. Not too long ago there was thread on books and someone mentioned Jodi Picoult's My Sister Keeper. I decided to check it out and it was fantastic. I have read 3 more of her books since then. That made me wonder, what other great authors are out there that somehow I haven't heard about. I would love to hear what some of your favorite books are.

I read East of Eden last summer and LOVED it. I believe it is my favorite book of all time now. I am currently reading To Kill a Mockingbird.

I have been going back and looking for classics I missed either in college or HS, I believe I have missed a lot.

Oh, I am also reading a book on controlling chronic GERD, hopefully no one else will ever have to read it. I wish I didn't have too...:(

I have two favorites----

Bridge to Terabitha by Katherine Paterson---I first read it in 3rd grade and I still break it out now and again to read it.

Years by Lavryle Spencer-It's a historical romance and my copy of this is also well worn.

I've been on a reading bend lately. I've also recently discovered Jodi Picoult and have loved several of her books (I think Salem Falls was my second favorite after My Sister's Keeper).

Other than her, I've read two by Jennfier Werner. Decently deep chick lit type books. Not completely junk, but light enough that you can read it by the pool. Also, I read The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory, which got me into some of her other books. I recommend checking them out.

3 Weeks with my Brother - Nicholas and Micah Sparks (and Im not a Sparks fan) and Jarhead - Anthony Swofford (read the book when it first came out and have yet to see the movie) are two of my current faves.

I just read 2 Jodi Picoult novels too...I had never heard of her until a few weeks ago. I read My Sister's Keeper and loved it....the end was such a surprise! The other one, I can't remember the name of but it was about a woman with an abusive actor husband. I wasn't so crazy about it. It was ok...it just seemed to drag on and on.

I just finished a book by Judith Gould - The Greek Villa. It was pretty good.

One of my all time favs is "The Lost World of Quintana Roo" by Michel Peissel. I first read it in the 7th grade and I've been an amateur mayanologist ever since.

Actually, my favorite ever book was from a Children's Book Club called The Family Nobody Wanted..........about a preacher and his wife in the 1940s who adopt 12 children of all different racial backgrounds.........they just sort of fall into it. It's a great story. They also foster 3 children.

I loved it until the book fell apart, and I still do. I happened upon an Ebay copy 2 years ago, and treasure it.

I read lots of children's books, being a teacher. My latest was Ida B. A real tear-jerker.

I don't read too many adult books........ I usually like funny ones, like The Girlfriends' Guides. I read the Time Traveler's Wife.........it kind of gave me a headache!

I also read my Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World quite often!

I just read the Last Time We Met,and I was REALLY ticked at the ending

I recently finsihed "Cell", the new book by Stephen King and before that "Memoirs of a Geisha". They were both execellant! Right now I am reading Dean Koonts' new book Forever Odd, but I'm finding it's not quite grabbing my attention. I also just read "Night", the current Oprah book club selection. It is very short, only 100 or so pages but worth reading.

My favorite book all around is Heaven and Seeds of Yesterday by V.C. Andrews. Two books I will always have on my shelf.

A few off the top of my head:

"The DaVinci Code"

"I Know This Much Is True" by Wally Lamb
(didn't care for "She's Come Undone" but LOVED this book)

"The Stand" by Stephen King
(actually love most of his books, but this was the best one, imo)

"The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks
(not a Sparks fan, but this one made me bawl like a baby)

I will have to try "My Sisters Keeper" next. Thanks for the suggestion!

Love Tuesdays with Morrie and The 5 People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. I also just finished Sam's Letter's to Jennifer by James Patterson. Every couple years I tend to find a couple books I like and read them over and over.

Oh two other good ones are

Fish! A Remarkable Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results

and

The Cookie Never Crumbles: Inspirational Recipes for Everyday Living by Wally Amos. He is a great speaker and a very insightful man.

I love book recommendations.

Some of my favorites are of course the Harry Potter series, Lamb, The Red Tent, The Secret Life of Bees, Memoirs of a Geisha and Angela's Ashes.

I LOVED The Stand by Stephen King- I think his best.
My favorite Christian series it the Mitford Series, very light and fun reading

Fantasy reading is Eragon and Eldest (just starting this one) very good for kids too!

My favorite romance writer is Jude Devereau or Nora Roberts.
I LOVE to read and still have to tell myself to put the book down and clean the house!! (Oh, Flylady!!)

-For a good, light-hearted read, anything by Fannie Flagg. She wrote Fried Green Tomatoes, but her other books are just as good, if not better.
-The Corrections by Jonathon Franzen was a deeper book but I was engrossed through the whole thing.
-She's Come Undone and I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb

I loved that book, too! I just finished Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, so now I must read The Da Vinci Code. Angels and Demons was excellent, I couldn't put it down. It was one of those books that you just had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next, very intriguing. :)
