What's your Dad's name?

Dorsey Wayne and he is my hero. Named my son after him.

My dad's name is Alvern. But get this when he was born my grandmother named him Elvern. One of his aunts enrolled him in school and told them it was Alvern instead.

So, in the 1980's (Carter administration) the FBI was doing a background check on him before he was to go to the White House for a meeting. Well, they wanted to know why he was going by Alvern and not Elvern. He of course said his name was Alvern, and they informed him it wasn't.

He called his mom and she said yes, your name is Elvern. He asked why she didn't say anything and she responded it didn't matter.

Now if you are wondering why he didn't just look at his birth certificate, well he didn't have one, due to the courthouse where birth records were kept burned down. He didn't get a replacement until after he legally changed his name to Alvern.

Who else has a dad with a "different" type name?

My Dad is Douglas Emerson, does Emerson count as a "different" name? lol He goes by Doug.

David...funny thing is that while dad is a "David Cassidy" he is not THE David Cassidy. We used to get calls at home all the time asking if David Cassidy was at home, followed by screams when we said yes.

Yep, we had an unlisted number shortly thereafter.

Who else has a dad with a "different" type name?

My FIL has a story like this. His father went to the courthouse in 1934 after he was born to get a birth certificate. He told the lady (who was older and apparently hard of hearing) that the new baby was named Benjamin Edward. She didn't quite understand, so he said loudly, "His first name is Benjamin and we're gonna call him Ben. His middle name is Edward...starts with an "E". So, got the birth certificate all printed up and the name is Bennie with no middle name. FIL's dad told everyone he'd been there too long at that point and it made no sense to get it corrected so he stayed Bennie. :goodvibes FIL's parents, brothers and sisters in Kentucky all call him Ben Edward, but he moved away in 1957 and has been known to his wife and kids here in Michigan as Bennie.

My dad is Bruce.

John Fraser B... because in 1917 my dad was the 7th kid and there was no money, but the neighbor lady, Mrs. Fraser, gave my grandparents a stroller and bassinet for the new baby. He's been gone since 1970 when I was 14. My brother is JFB Jr and my nephew is the 3rd.

My Dad's name is Edward.

He's sort of got a middle name of Ambrose, but it's not on his birth certificate. The story he told me is that when he enlisted (late 1943 I think), the paperwork required a middle name or at least a middle initial. Enlistees who didn't have a middle name were told to put down the first letter of their last name as their middle initial. The "Ambrose" part came after the war, when he applied for a job and was asked what the "A" stood for. It's one of those stories that OUGHT to be true, whether it is or not.

Melvin. :lmao::lmao:

You would think he would go by his middle name, but it's Vance,
so ...... 6 of one half dozen of another.

I know of at least 3 young boys named Vance...it's coming back in fashion!

My daddy was Terence "Terry". He has been gone almost 13 years :sad1: I miss him so so so so so so much. He would have been one hell of a grandpa..

Thomas. Goes by Tom but as a kid was called Scooter. He was quite a ball player. I always know when I run into one of his childhood friends, they say "are you Scooters kid?"
My kids call him Papa.

My dad was John  he passed away almost 6 years ago. I think about him every single day.

Robert, and his friends called him Bob. He passed way too young. He's been gone 40 years this year.

FIL is 82, and his name is John.
