What are having this Christmas?

My menu:
Honey Ham
devil eggs
collard greens
mac and cheese
potato salad
German chocolate cake
sweet potato pie
veggie platter
fruit platter

Spiral ham w/ maple glaze
Sweet potatoes
cornbread dressing
stewed green beans
yeast rolls
raw veggies/dip
chocolate mousse pie
pecan pie

Ceasar salad, asparagus, Rib Roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, and some dessert.

Whatever appeals to us at the Rose & Crown... fish and chips, pot roast... definitely Bass Ale.

Usually a beef dish - soup. Prime rib, beef wellington etc, pasta course (penne ala vodka, lasagna, or manicotti), au gratin potatoes, carmelized onions, creamed spinach, ceasar salad, chocolate cake, Christmas cookies and ice cream.

Spiral ham, red potato salad, and a relish tray (assorted pickles, olives, etc.)

Unfortunatley we will be at my MIL's so dinner will probably be:

Overcooked and cold beef tenderloin with ZERO seasoning or sauce (She cooks it in a pan with about 2" of water in it so the bottom is basically boiled meat and plans it so it comes out of the oven an hour before we eat)

Burnt potatoes au gratin made with nothing more than salt, pepper, swiss cheese and way too much milk so it's like potato soup with a burnt swiss cheese crust on top.

corn from the can

crescent rolls

There you go... lol DH tried to get Christmas here this year but she would not budge. I am not a chef or gourmet cook by any means, but I am a decent cook and I put as much effort as I can into my holiday meals.

Ham
Hashbrown Casserole
Glazed Carrots
Broccoli Salad
Deviled eggs
Yeast Rolls
Banana Pudding

Crazelion....I knew before I even looked at your profile that you had to be from the south! A good southern menu...collards & mac & cheese! Sounds just like our menu!

We do 2 feasts, one Christmas Eve and another Christmas Day. I am doing Christmas Eve and my MIL is doing Christmas Day but I help her too otherwise it's too much. I hope to get some good ideas here if anyone has anything in shellfish I'd love a good recipe:goodvibes

This post reminds me I must start lining up some cookie baking marathons

BTW if anyone has a good recipe for Collards I would LOVE it. I had them at Virgil's in NYC and they were outrageously good, but I wouldn't know the first thing about cooking them for us

Breakfast - Southwest Breakfast Casserolle & Apple Toffee Breakfast Casserole

Appetizers - Shrimp cocktail, cheese & crackers, veggies & dip

Dinner - filet mignon done on the grill, loaded baked potatoes, green beens with mushrooms, corn, tossed salad

Dessert - Chocolate/Raspberry dessert and assorted christmas cookies/bars

That sounds revolting. I didn't think there was any way to ruin a tenderloin but I see there is!

we do something different each year. This year, I am making a ham, slicing it for sandwiches, and making cheesy potatoes, too. Everyone else is bringing appetizers to go with it all. I will probably make deviled eggs, too.

In the past we have done where everyone picks a country out of a hat and they needed to make a dish from that country. It was really fun!!

Yes I am from the South. I good southern cook ask cook something fancy now that is different story.

I remember days we really did not have fast food restaurants until 1993. I still go down street see mom pop restaurants still around and do good business. Home cooked food too. Where else good salmon patties and fried green tomato at.

How bad for do want the collard greens be for you. LOL

First I would get a hammock. The hammock is put in the collard greens. Then I would extra salt, pepper, and red pepper.

I would cook the hammock and the collard greens for about 3 to 5 hours. About the last hour of cooking I like to add hot peppers to mind.

Now that collard greens are done. Get the cornbread and hot sauce and mixed all the together for a meal. I am talking real cornbread and not jiffy. The buttermilk kind. Now I am showing my true southern roots.

Well I would LOVE to have spiral honey ham for Christmas....however I am on a low sodium diet so ham is banned from my menu :sad2:

We will probably have :
- a veggie tray and some shrimp cocktail
- Homemade meat lasagna
- Salad with homemade dressing
- Cherry Cheescake
- Devils Food Bundt cake with homemade brown sugar icing
