to potty train a puppy??

Take it outside every half hour religiously.

Crates are a necessity for night and when you're not home. You will be waking up every hour at night to take the dog out.

The every half hour thing will diminish down to every hour, every hour and a half, every 2 hours, to the puppy will go to the door or give some other indication it needs out (my lab would literally grab my hand/arm and give me a pull if she had access to my hand if I was sitting or laying on the couch.)
