Whats your best Disney Travel Secret

Leave hubby at home :rotfl2:

sad, but true.

He actually said "You don't want to go *Every* year do you?"

that's grounds for divorce, right?!

Now DD and I go without him. Funny, my smiles in our pictures got a lot bigger when I stopped stressing over making sure DH was having a good time.

So very, very true.

This is why I'm leaving DH behind this time. The child and I will have a better time without him controlling the whole vacation from start to finish. :woohoo:

Wow! What a bummer! I'm lucky in that my Hubby loves Disney just as much as I do. We purchased DVC a few years ago (before kids) and look forward to all of our future visits now that we have two babies.

My tip if you are a crazy disney person like me...Go with your family , friends or kids. BUT go by YOURSELF at least once!! I love to go by myself during the Food and Wine Festival especially and always have a ball! So many wine/food seminars to go to --you meet so many nice people! I agree that you should just take your time and not rush. I love to go to World Showcase at night and just take it all in walk through all of the shops drink some wine...talk to people. I love it in the day too! My favorite thing to do right now is to go to Animal Kingdom Lodge at around 7 have a wine at Victoria Falls and relax before eating dinner at Jiko. After dinner I take a glass of wine out by the pool and walk back to view the animals by night vision goggles. I then sit by the fire pit awhile. I always meet people . If I am alone on the trip or with family it's my favorite thing to do on the trip.It really is like going to Africa... go to Disney alone at least once!!! eat lunch and dinner at the restaurants , talk to people when on line for rides it is the best!! do whatever you want when you want! I also have to say I wish so much they would bring back Super Soap weekend now THAT was a hoot!!! my daughter and I went every year and had the greatest times ever! I did a love scene with Ryan--Cameron Matthison and got a great big kiss from Michael Knight one time--so fun!!! I remain Kelly ...a passholder---:goodvibes hopefully for life! I'm sorry--- did I mention I like to have wine? especially at Epcot!

8:05 character breakfasts. Eat VERY quickly and then enjoy the empty park until rope drop.

This is mine too.. We always do an early Crystal palace breakfast and enjoy walking down Main Street on our own. We even let our 2 year old out of the stroller and walk.. made for some great photos.

We also like to fly in the night before.. Usually late, take Magical express and then get our rental car the next day. They we do not waste a travel day and can take it easy and work our way into full day 1.

If we have time for dinner on our fly in day we like to hit Chef Mickeys for Dinner. This gets the.. I wanna see Mikey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, out of the way and we don't have to (but still choose to sometimes) wait in line for them in the parks, plus if we time it right you can see Wishes and you really feel like you are in the world.

Im with a lot of people on here.
Always hit the arks on the second day. Save the first day for check in and relaxing around the pool. Go eat at Downtown Disney.
You have to hit the Crystal Palace at least once. This is a great meal and you get some of the characters out of the way. I like Chef Mickey's but it is a little out of the way to do.
Dont waste a whole day at Animal Kingdom. This is not an all day park. Plus if you are there late in the day, it will get hot. If you do stay there all day, save the shows towards the end of the day.
Dont base the trip on your childrens happiness. They will get tired. They can only run so much. Split the days in the parks with the resorts. As much as you want to do, dont make it a job. Relax at the room for a little while.

I would definitely spend a whole day at AK. Going with the theme of taking it slow, this is the perfect place to do that. While there are not many thrill based attractions here, there is still a lot to see and do. And, if you go during the times that I originally suggested, the heat will not be a factor. I made the mistake of not experiencing all of AK my first couple of trips and I won't be doing that again. Watch the bird show, ride the train to Rafiki's planet watch, do the trails, and enjoy. Also, if you go during slow time of year and when AK has evening EMH, you can ride EE over and over again. Justlast month, we rode it until we got tired of it. IMHO, it is a MUCH better attraction at night than it is during the day.

Stay on property!!!!! This helps us tour the parks early in the morning and we leave around lunch time.. We go back the last two hours the park is open, I cannot tell you how good it feels to be walking in as everyone is walking out. One night at MK, my son and I rode all the large attractions in just 45 minutes during thanksgiving week on a non EMH night. Plus the parks at night are beautiful..

While I cannot imagine going without the kids, I really can't because we have such a good time together, going off by yourself is a good idea.

Especially at F&W. :thumbsup2:cool1:

The DW and kids have not wanted to go to F&W in the evenings on a couple of our trips. I left them at the pool! It is nice to be able to walk around F&W at your own pace.

With kids it is very nice to split up so one parent has one kid while the other parent and child go off to do something else. That one on one time is very nice. This also works well if the grandparents are there. The time the kids spend with the grandparents is precious and priceless. ;)

Dan

Our mentality is that "there will always be another trip.". By that I mean that we don't need to try to do everything each and every time. I let each person pick a few things - a meal, a ride, an experience - that we definitely do. The rest is go with the flow. We're hot and tired? Go back to the hotel for a swim or even to watch a movie in the air conditioned room.
On our last trip we had some transportation issues (monorail broke down) and it took almost 90 min to get from Poly to MK. You can get stressed and upset or you can just smile and say "At least we're lucky enough to be at Disney!"

Don't stress so much about making it to the busses before the rush. Too many times we skipped a parade or a fireworks show to beat the rush to the busses. That always ends up backfiring.:genie::flower1::tiptoe:

To survive the coffee I take my starbucks VIA packets with me. Simple and easy to use!

You want to take little snacks with you if you can. It always helps sitting in lines. Plus the price of food is outrageous.

I was thinking about this the other night. I regret not staying hydrated enough during our last visit. It was November, so it wasn't overly hot, perhaps high 70s. I wasn't sweaty at all, and didn't feel as if I was exhausting myself. But, at the end of a sunny day at EPCOT, I wasn't feeling well, and I think it was due to dehydration.

So, I guess my secret is to drink water, even when you're not thirsty. Stay ahead of the hydration.
