What's Wrong with Rachel Ray??

I never watch the Food Channel but a few weeks ago, my very frugal brother jokingly said; "I should have married Rachel Ray; she's cute and I could eat well for less than $40 a day". Since then I have seen her on the Food Channel, on Oprah, on the cover of her cook books and I think she is adorable. I understand however that there are web sites entitled, "Rachael Ray S**ks". I don't get it. I don't hate cooking, but she could almost make me like it. Anyone else like Rachel Ray?

I like her, but I could see how she annoys some people. I'm hoping I get a couple of her cookbooks for Christmas!

Here's an article that explains why. In a nutshell, food snobs look down on her, and resent her big-time success.

Yup Jim, that's the article I read too. There is a place for everyone's cooking so I don't understand why the "foodies" don't have a bigger tent.

I love Rachel Ray, she is so cute, I love her cooking style and she has a couple of great shows.

I was once heading up to Santa Barbara for the day and the Santa Barbara episode of her $40/day show happened to be on that morning. I ended up eating lunch at the lobster stand on the pier per her recommendation, very inexpensive and now one of my favorites, especially when the pelicans are hanging out.

I am going to get my brother a cookbook and one for my best friend.

I love Rachel Ray! She comes across as very genuine. Her recipes aren't intimidating, they're not snooty, they're what "real" people cook in their "real" lives.

My DF has a little crush on her...

I can not stand Rachael Ray! I'm not a food snob either. She is so annoying.

Her little phrases. "Yummers"? "Yummm-O?" She isn't 5. The "EVOO" kills me, no one says that.

The $40 a Day thing is a joke too. She only tips like 5% most of the time. I've seen her at places known for Steak or BBQ and she gets Mac and Cheese and then acts like it's the best meal she's ever tasted.

While I think she has some great ideas for 30-minute meals, I can not watch her. It's like nails on the chalkboard.

I really like Rachel Ray. She's more down to earth than the foodies and I think her style incorporates more of how the average American cooks. I don't know about anyone else but I don't have the time to cook like Emeril and I certainly don't have the $$ for posh ingredients the foodies like to use.

She does have great tips for cooks who have families and real life to take care of. I don't have a problem with any of her cooking methods but with her voice at times. Sometimes it does grate on my nerves but not so bad that I refuse to watch her or anything.

I watch $40 a Day show more to see more restaurants that are out there, not to find places to eat under that. To me it is easy to eat under $40/day going out for all 3 meals.

The stories I have heard about her filming that show are not very flattering to her in the least. She did a show on Asheville last summer and left a bad taste in the mouths of pretty much everyone she "worked" with at those restaurants. That is so sad. Hope she realizes how she is treating people before she gets too far gone that she can never redeem herself.

Do you think that any restaurant where she shows up and gives them all of that FREE ADVERTIZING cares if she tips 5%. :rotfl:

I like her food recipes, but she IS annoying. She just doesn't shut up! The times I watch her, I have the Mute button in hand. Most of what comes ot of her mouth is unnecessary expository junk that has nothing to do with preparing the recipe. I only turn the sound on when I know she's actually talking about the recipe.

There have been studies done where the human brain can only listen to so many words a day, then one becomes auditorily saturated. :listen: In "30 Minutes", Rachael Ray does that to me, if I don't have the Mute on. :earboy2:

Plus all that perky, sweet innocent attitude is just an act! Once she had her sister on the show. You know how people naturally act differently around family but may not realize it? Well she forgot to put on her little perky act & the knives came out when she was interacting with her sister. :earseek: Snarky, demeaning, sarcastic, full of put downs disgused as humor & selfish. :earseek: I got a glimpse of how she really is with the cameras off. :magnify: I stopped liking her after that. When I tune in, it's ONLY for a shortcut on the recipes.

I LOVE Rachel Ray. But I can see why people are starting to get annoyed by her, she's everywhere! Way too overexposed. Let someone else have a show, she doesn't need 4+.

What gets me is that during every show I've watched everytime she says "EVOO," she says "extra virgin olive oil" afterwards. What's the point of a short-cut if you have to say what it stands for?

I'm kind of neutral on Rachel Ray - she's kind of annoying, but I like that she cooks "normal" food.

Actually they do. They spend hours and hours with her and it would only be polite if she were to tip them at least the standard. Maybe if she was not so difficult to work with they wouldn't mind.

I sure would be pissed if I had to spend hours of my day meeting all her demands and such but in the end only get a tiny tip. The free advertising doesn't make it right to treat people poorly.

I am also someone who cannot stand the way that she tries to be so cute. The concept behind her shows are fine, but she ruins it for me.

AMEN!!! I agree with every single point. She's totally overexposed and drives me bananas! The EVOO thing makes me want to tear out my hair. She's not nearly as cute as she seems to think she is.

Re: her tipping. The point is not whether the restaurant minds if she tips 5%, the point is that there's no way I'd be able to do what she did for $40 per day because she undertips. She cuts corners and calling it $40 is not a real representation.

Also, it drives me nuts to watch her put pre-made ice cream on pre-made cookies and call it a "recipe" or "meal idea".

Sure the restaurant may not care but then she isn't doing it on $40 a day if she is tipping well below what a 'regular' person would. If she tipped normally, it would be $50 a day.

I think they should just leave off the tipping part but it's not my show.

I don't know whats wrong with her, I love her :)

Planning on eating at some of the places she recommended in Park City in Feb :)
