Whats Wrong with Disney?

Disney parks in the United States, Europe and Asia made up nine of the top 10 parks and held 11 of the top 25 spots. Universal Studios' theme parks came in a distant second with just one park in the top 10 list and four in the top 25 list. SeaWorld held two spots.

Not seeing much wrong with Disney besides WDW is on the wrong coast.

Exactly ! Everyone made a big deal about us % going up more but when you're that low it doesn't take much to seem great. MK had same total number of increased visitors.
With US I can just go to my local 6 flags for the thrill rides. HP nice but about 4 sequels too long.:headache:

:lmao:

That is seriously funny on so many levels! Would you mind me asking how many times you have been to Universal and during what phase?

Everyone seems to be debating the merits of Avatar Land, or whatever it's supposed to be named. But honestly, does it really matter what the new area is based on as long as it's well themed? Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean weren't based on books or movies, but they're well themed attractions and they remain popular.

I think HP will have the same staying power, not necessarily in it's current incarnation, but the HP books are loaded with wonderful details that could be turned into additional attractions or lands. JK Rowling is a fabulous storyteller, something she has in common with Walt Disney.

Sorry hatter, but you have turned into exactly what you started out preaching against, you just sit on the opposite side of the lake. :lmao:

I will visit again once Avatar opens. If it turns out as beautiful as the concept art then everyone will be happy (but you can't please everyone;)). I truly hope it turns out like that. I have no doubt that Disney will theme it out to the extreme, but just like others argue against HP, will it have substance? I hope the technology used in Soarin' Over Pandora is innovative. I hope it's something we have never seen before, but based on recent additions, I have doubts (my opinion). I am more excited about the night show and having the chance to finally ride EE in the dark!:thumbsup2

And to the bolded....perhaps this will be popular to all those "Potter nerds".;)

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them...

What was the land originally supposed to be at AK that ended up being Camp Mickey and Minnie (and now Avatar)? :rolleyes1

I have averaged 1.041666 trips to WDW per year in my 48 year existance. What exactly did I start out preaching against when I joined DIS? I know what Disney was, and is, at this point in my life. I've visited Universal an average of only .438 times over the same time span (that is 7/16ths for the old school math dudes) so I know what they were, and are, at this point in my life.

When people spout things like carnival, 6 Flags and the likes it makes me giggle. Why on Earth would I value any opinion from someone so close minded? To see some spout off about something they have never actually witnessed is so incredulous. It makes you wonder what they are actually teaching in History these days.:confused3

Would I be upset if Disney got a little comeuppance in the near future? Not really.

If I had never been to WDW and just read through this thread I would swear that Disney is falling down and Universal, teamed with Harry potter, has put them out of business!

To use a spell from Potter...

Petrification!:wizard:

The Petrification effect resembles death, except that the victim is still alive, as if in suspended animation. It takes careful examination to discern whether a victim is in fact Petrified rather than dead. If a ghost is Petrified, it turns a dark smoky grey and can only be moved by the use of a fan. The antidote is made from mandrake roots.

:)

Thats the thing with these Disney vs Universal threads. You see, fans of Universal or both parks have very little opportunity on the DIS to discuss things. There is a semi-active Uni Forum which is actually very pleasant to post in. When it comes to controversy and actual discourse, Theme Park Attractions and Strategies has the most traffic and the most views. So, when someone posts this topic here, those of us that like both parks come out in force.

That is definitely not the spell

I think the spell for which you're looking is

Petrificus totalus!

Muggle...

True...my parents are Muggles. Don't get all Mudblood on me. Damn those Cliffsnotes.;)

I keep seeing that Universal supposedly has bad food. You just have to know where to go. Just like at WDW.

If you have experienced Universal and don't like it, don't go! I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that. But to continually tear down Universal when you either don't know how to tour the place or just because it's over there and you've never even been gets old. We all enjoy WDW here or we would likely be at a much friendlier forum to be honest. Some of us just like more than one place.

Besides, I thought that the topic is Disney not doing enough lately. They can do not enough no matter what Universal does so I guess the disagreement is really the lack of activity on Disney's part. Or not. ;)

I like it when someone throws out the carnival/fair/Six Flag analogy when referring to Universal because it immediately lets me know that everything else they have to say on the subject is meaningless.

Had no time to read through this whole thread, but I have to admit we visited both parks in May before Mine Train and, of course, Diagon Alley were open. A recurring daydream I have had has been, man, it would be cool to pull off a long weekend at Universal before school starts again to see all the new stuff and re-experience what we loved last visit. I don't really have that dream about hitting Disney again in the next few months even with missing out on 7dMT. We went onto the HP Forbidden Journey ride with absolutely no idea of what the ride was like. It blew my mind! Disney has nothing that compares to the technology of that ride. It was amazing.

Thank You DisUniversal...you have said so much with so few words. We need a "like" button.

I hope this doesn't make me less of a person ;), but I have also owned a 6 Flags AP for 38 years. I don't know if that makes me an expert on the subject and the differences between the two...I would think so, but who knows here.:confused3

Do the math...there is hot rumor going around about a Frozen overlay in Maelstrom...to take advantage of the "hysteria". Does anyone in their right mind think 1)It would do justice to that (overrated IP) and 2)have any longevity?

They are so far behind the curve in FL. Break out SWL already...we know it's going to take 5 years. Start dozing AIE right off the bat. In the meantime, I will be over here eating a giant turkey leg at the local 6 Flags. I bet they taste more "magical" at Disney (but still like ham).

And I really don't get the, "I didn't like the Avatar movie so the 'land' will blow crowd", either.

I haven't read any of the HP books, nor do I plan to do so. I saw the first movie, and rented the second but turned it off about 30 mins in. That's it.

Yet I'd like to experience the park just because I think I can appreciate and enjoy the effects.

Back to Avatar...

Once I got over the 3D effects I was done. That lasted about 30 mins. The movie was all downhill from there. And I have never bothered watching it on free cable, even.

But if Disney can create a wonderful experience I will be there, regardless of my views on the movie.

Man, I am there to be entertained and I don't always need a movie connection to accomplish my mission!

I don't think it's so much the "I didn't like Avatar" crowd really speaking up in this thread. This was a bigger deal back when Disney announced it around 2011 (yeah...do the math).

I actually fell asleep while watching Avatar in the theaters during it's opening weekend. I'm not saying it wasn't the fault of the pre-dinner drinks or the other Earthly experiences that were floating around that night...don't get me wrong. I was amazed at just how far the 3D tech had advanced since I last went to see one (Friday the 13th Part 3D in 1982 for those playing at home). It was really cool to see something in 3D that didn't involve those glasses with a red and green lens!:thumbsup2

I think most of us are there to be entertained. I just have a problem with expecting to be entertained by the same experience over and over and over and over again. Here is to hoping I don't fall asleep again! :drinking1
