What's with the Jesus skywriting?

I agree. It was uncalled for. I'll be the first to call the skywriter a "nutjob" but I will keep any similar thoughts about other posters to myself! It's safer that way .

My beliefs are personal and I would never push them on anyone.

However I do find it interesting in this country that another terrorist attack, major hurricane, or other life altering situation and his message will be politically correct.

The exact same thing can be said for people who are Christian. My guess is that the vast majority of people who are religious practice the same religion as their parents. My husband has a smart-Aleck answer to those who say to him: "Oh! You're Jewish!" It's "Only on my mother and father's side.". The other point I have to make is what makes you think that non-Christians have not investigated Christianity? I, for one, am a former Christian.

Thats not true for me.I have investigated Christianity.So have many Christians that I know. Im not a christian because of my parents.My mom raisied us mormon.I really investigated the mormon faith and left the mormon church,so did my sister.Most Christians dont just blindly follow the religion they were raised with.

A few people don't get it, and keep saying "what's the big deal?" because they agree with the graffiti. That is very short-sighted. Someday they are going to be offended by something, and I guess we can all sit back and just say "What's the big deal if someone skywrites over WDW 'Religion Kills'", or some other saying that they don't agree with.

The big deal is, religion does not belong at WDW. This guy is a nutjob for doing what he does (skywriting anything). The sad part is I'm sure he loves the attention, loves the controversy, and loves that people can't stand him. People like that talk the "holy" talk, but don't follow the "walk". NED

You really shouldnt be judging the skywriter.The only thing that you know about him is that he writes in the sky.You dont know why he does it and how he lives his life when hes not in the sky.

We are judged by our actions, Christian or not. And this man's actions tell me quite a lot about him- none of it favorable.

They don't make me angry(unless they make it personal and start harrassing etc) if anything I feel kind of sorry for them. If you look at most(not all) Born-Agains, they tend to be recovering drug addicts, former criminals or mentally ill(and came from homes/families where mental illness wasn't treated, it was hidden out of shame). All they know is that "Jesus saved me" and they truly believe that they are doing a helpful thing. They don't realize that not everyone is so tormented and that they may be perfectly happy with their own religion or lack of one. They think everyone needs to follow their path, but IMHO, this is not done maliciously, it's just misguided and shows a lack of perception.

I think most Christians can do without your pity and your condescension. That was a pretty elitist post. Amazingly enough, more of us than you think are not criminals, mentally ill, recovering addicts, or even limited thinkers. The difference is that we believe in transformation and in the image of God to be found in each individual despite circumstances. The grace of God allows us to do that.

Ok, so those people who believe that what they are doing in the name of Jesus is wrong, but the stuff you do is right? See? Slippery slope. Yes, sensible people would agree, but those people believe that what they are doing is right, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.

The world would have been a much more peaceful place without all these belief systems.

I haven't done anything to anyone. All I'm saying is that peeps that do what that person described is not socially acceptable, let alone Christian behaivor. That is why it is against the law. My main point is this. The slippery slope is what we must guard against in allowing free-speech. We can either have free speech, or freedom from being offended in which case no one would be allowed to speak at all, presumably because what someone says will offend someone else. Therefore the only solution is to have free speech and not go down the road of restricting free speech. I'd rather let peeps get offended than go down the road of a "slippery slope" in restricting free speech.

The founding fathers included in the Bill of Rights the right to free speech, not the right to not be offended. One is practical and do-able the other is not.

Even with Fastpass, we might have to wait in line for a few minutes, this skywriting is a good family conversation starter, teachable moment, or a time to give thanks that we have been blessed to have this memorable vacation!

Suggested questions for lesson plans:

1) What do you think the skywriter is trying to accomplish?

2) Based on recent DIS threads (in which no non-Christians suggested the skywriting make them feel more positive about Christ or Christianity, and many felt the writing made them feel less positive about Christianity) do you believe the skywriting is an effective ministry?

3) What better ways might the skywriter go about getting across his message?
