What's With The Attitude Towards "Free Diners"?

Do I blame those who are taking advantage of free dining? Of course not...

Frankly, the costs at WDW are through the roof already (Thanks Eisner. yippee) and it's way out of line of Walt's dream of a destination for everyone.

What puzzles me is, why slam people who make use of free dining? Free dining was initiated by Disney and is obviously something The Powers That Be think is a good idea (since they keep doing it). So if you don't like it and want to blame someone, why not blame Disney? :confused3 Why get down on people who are just doing what Disney wants them to do?

Personally, I'm way more horrified by the fact that they tore down some of the berm around Disneyland. :scared1: ;) :upsidedow

It's a growing number of us that have just decided that it's not worth the premium prices for less than cafeteria quality in many places anymore. It's perfectly fine to feel differently, but it's not food snobbery, it's a difference of opinion in what we think is passable. I'm perfectly happy w/ buffet food. But even that has gone too far down for me. No food snob here. DH wishes I was. I'm perfectly happy w/ a burger/hot dog and fries.
Well said! It's a comparison of how the food is now compared to 5 -10 years ago! Some have blamed the economy but the changes started way before that. and Yes restaurants (due to the economy) are doing the same thing, ie: The Outback for example, they reduced portion size, excluded the salad and offered it @ $14.95 to get people in. Disney did the same by cutting on the quality of the cuts of meat, by nixing Prime Rib at the buffets, nixing Lobster tails, and by limiting the menu choices, yet they did not lower the price, prices remained the same and/or increased!

In addition to the issues with menu quality and variety (which are definitely a result of the DDP), as well as the inconvenience of dealing with ADRs, one thing that most people don't realize is that the DDP is also contributing to how much Disney is able to increase the price of their hotels every year. It allows them to raise their rates more than they otherwise would.

Bingo. Thanks for this.

I would not worry about it. Some people will find anything to complain about. Perhaps those who are complaining are just jealous because they didn't get a discount. ;)

Facts are this: if Disney is going to offer discounts, people are going to take them. If Disney is unable to fill rooms on rack-rate pricing, they will offer something to get people in there. They would rather give you free food and have you pay for the room than to have an empty room. They make a killing off the food anyhow. ;)

Now, I do have to admit: I am one who wishes Disney would give discounts on rooms and tickets and do away with free dining. I don't have any issues with people who get it, I just wish Disney would no offer it.

Since playing nice in the sandbox is not happening, this thread is closed (and no parting gifts either)
