What's with Netflix and UR movies?

Seems like so often lately I request a movie from Netflix with no clue as to its rating - classified "UR" (unrated). This happens to be a huge deal for us, as we have 2 boys (10 & 13) who are no longer interested in cartoony things, yet still too young for R+ rated stuff (IMO). I'm pretty much okay with PG-13 for both of them, but often it's just a scene or 2 that can push the flick over the line to an R rating. I'm thinking that UR versions do just that.

Am I missing something? Why is it so often that they don't have the regular "rated" versions? I have noticed this in the video stores as well, but more so on Netflix. Can someone educate me - what's this about? Is there a way to pick up rated versions from Netflix? If so, I must have missed it. Am I the only person really irritated by this?

Oh and I know, I know - I can always "screen" the movies before I let the kids watch, but we love to sit down to a movie...together...as a family.
