It has been real warm here on Long Island this winter so far. I have noticed a lot of my bulbs are starting to come up. My daffadils are starting to grow and I was up in one of my maple trees today removing christmas lights and it looks like the tree is starting to budd. Whats going to happen when it does get cold and we get some snow?

I'm wondering the same thing. I remember my bulbs sprouting early one year, and it didn't seem to do them much harm, but I might have gotten fewer blooms that year. And trees seem to recover pretty well, too.

What I'm really worried about is the insect problem. We haven't had enough cold weather to kill off winter moths or other bugs and grubs that dine on our flora. Some trees out there have been stressed by constant insect defoliation for more than 3 years, and I think we're going to lose a lot of trees this year. If we get a really deep freeze, we'll lose more (although with the weather patterns we've experienced, I really don't think that will happen).
