What's up with the CR?

I keep reading posts about horrible things (floods, fires, emergencies) at the CR.

Anyone with inside info out there - what the heck is going on?

We've stayed at the CR before - and we liked it fine. It's certainly a magical place and of course quite convenient. It is a bit outdated - I wonder if that's why all the problems???

It sounds like several things happend at once: the water main explosion, that accident with the water mice on Bay Lake, those kids killed at the WDW entrance.

Someone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Contemporary has ever undergone the extensive internal rehab the Polynesian, a resort almost as old, has done in recent years. I blame the resort's nearly 100 % occupancy and its sheer size: nearly 1100 rooms. Closing a resort this size for several months for rehab (pipes, fittings, whatever) would be a serious blow to an already overworked reservation system.

It looks like at least the inside of the rooms have been refurbished at CR.

I know the Contemporary got what hotel designers call a "soft rehab" about three years ago, which involves redecorating the rooms, changing carpets, bedspreads, furniture; but that's cosmetic. I'm talking about extensive repair work on pipes and fittings...when was the last time the CR had this done?

My 6 yr. old DD and I took our very first trip to WDW last week and stayed at the CR (saved a long time to do it). We loved it!!! We were in the South wing, standard view, and our room was very nice. Of course, we spent little time in it! It was mostly a place to sleep and change clothes. Housekeeping kept it very clean, and they always left our towels folded in neat shapes and designs. Chef Mickey's and the Concourse Steakhouse were wonderful - excellent service. And nothing beats having the easy access to the monorail - watching it from the restaurants or the lounge was also great! I would have loved to have been able to afford a Tower room with a MK view, but, overall, we absolutely loved the CR!

As bad as it is, stuff happens. Sometimes someone will post about it sometime not.

I would not take this to mean that the Comtemporary is having anything more than a very bad day.

According to the OP the car accident occurred at the "entrance to WDW" not at the Contemporary. It's a horrible situation, but certainly nothing to do with the Contemporary Resort. I have seen nothing about this on local news or found anything online in the local news coverage.
