anyone have any inside info on Space Mt for 2009. DS is talking rumors of repairs.

My research indicates that this is a rumor...but one with good legs.

Apparently the tracks are old and there are a lot of breakdowns.

If WDW offers newsI shall inform promptly. Also I shall ask when I go in 1 week :cool1:  :yay: :dance3: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :santa:
and will report when I return.

Our tour guide for the Keys to the Kingdom tour said that an 18 month shutdown for complete refurb (new track and all) is coming, but no word on when it would happen. She indicated that it was likely to begin within the next year, but there's been no confirmation of that.

We happened to be on the TTA when there was a breakdown on Space Mountain. We got to see Space Mountain with the lights on! It was kind of cool, especially since DH and I are roller coaster freaks. :) It had several breakdowns while we were there in 2006-I can see repairs being necessary.

We were at MK on Saturday and Space Mountain was down for technical difficulties. I guess a refurbishment would be in order.

There are rumors that Space Mountain will close for a lengthy rehab, but at this point, these are strictly rumors, nothing confirmed yet. Stay tuned to the DIS for full details!

I read on another site that the new trip planning DVD guides have a blank area on the map where Space should be :confused3

ok ... My DH heard that Space Mountain would be closed for the entire year in 2009... he was very upset... if anyone gets offical word would they please post it here.... Thanks .....

Jeez I hope they refurbish it. My head was getting swung around so much my neck hurt afterwards. It's a fun ride but wow it's a rough one. My 8 year old son loved it. I was sure he would be terrified. I mean he was scared to death to go on the star wars ride lol. But he finally broke down and went on and loved it. He HATED Mission Space (orange).

I hope they refurb it soon. I went to Disneyland over the summer and their Space Mountain rocked. Music coordinated with the track! Cool! So, I know it will be disappointing to folks for the next 12 - 18 months, but it will be worth it.

When we went last summer, Space Mountain was down more than it was up. We would hop on the TTA and get a fun look inside, and I'd say we did this 4 or 5 times throughout our trip. So I think the rumors are true, and perhaps they aren't announcing it because they don't want people to delay their trips until after the refurb, since it's one of the big attractions for a lot of people.

After a few trips to WDW, and then my 1st trip to DL a few months ago, I cannot agree with this statement more! We rode SM several times at DL, and each time I was more amazed at how much better, smoother, etc... it is than the one at WDW. Can't wait for a refurb!

We were there just this past week. We rode it Thursday early afternoon and halfway through our ride the lights came on. I turned and looked at DH who gave me a weird look and I was just hoping that we weren't going to get stuck on an incline. Our DD7 and 5 were with us and it was their first time on the ride and I did not want them to get terrified if we got stuck. Luckily, our car finished the track and we were the last one on for some time. We ended up on TTT later on and the lights were still on and there was a car on the incline. I'm not sure if they were there from when we were on it or if they tried to run it again or what. It was very jerky and I wouldn't doubt that they will refurb. It was very cool doing the ride 1/2 in the dark and 1/2 in the light.

Okay, this is what I have heard. A former student of mine's dad told me that his son had been asked to redesign the cars for Space Mountain. He is an engineer and was asked to design a new roller coaster for Animal Kingdom. He was also asked to submit a plan for designing new cars for the Space Mountain ride. Disney wanted a car that could load more riders at a time and speed up the loading process. I know the Animal Kingdom ride is in the works and has been accepted. This was very exciting for me. We are from a very small town and to have a former fourth grade student of mine involved with Disney is pretty exciting. Take all of this for what it's worth, but this is what I was told a few months back.

I think If Its a safety Issuie by all means It should be shut down and refurb, but If its a Issue were its not the same or not as good as DL?,I do not know.I think there should be a diffrence, just like the POTC,splash Mt Etc. If they do make changes I hope It will be Diffrent then the one In DL.:goodvibes

Yeah, I agree, it needs a refurb. When we were there in Sept 08, it seemed to be broken down pretty often, we were turned away quite a few times. I'd like to see it done like the DL Space Mtn. :) Kick it up a notch, or so they say :)

Yes, it's not listed as an attraction on the map.

Also, in the 2009 DVD images and mention of Space Mountain have been removed. It's basically the same as the 2008 DVD. In the old one at one point they talked about the "3 Mountains of the MK"-- the new one only talks about two (Splash & BTMRR).

We are planning to go in May. My oldest will be disappointed to miss it, but on our last trip the ride shut down EVERY single time we were in line. Once while we were on it-- they got us off and allowed us to go to the front of the line to be first when the ride started back up.

i went spring break and it was shut down
then i went again in summer and i got to ride once but had to wait b.c of "tech difficulties" :confused3
