What's up with Space Mt

I just finished reading the 2009 Birnbaum's guide from Disney themselves. It says on several pages that SM will be closed for refurbishment for the "majority of 2009". No specific dates, but this is a disney book.

I think it definitely needs it. Hey, another reason to go back when it is done.

I'd also heard it would be closed for all of 2009 and possibly longer. We were there in June and didn't get to go on it...and were hoping to in February.

Oh my, this is distressing news. We are in the last stages of planning our trip and SM was definitely on our MUST DO list! Where should I look for the official Disney announcement if there is one?

Space Mountain is my favorite ride. I hope they don't close it until after our trip in May.

Any word about January yet? I'm hoping it will still be open when we visit in a couple of weeks.

We were in the Magic Kingdom on Jan. 1st. We were finally in line to ride Space when it broke down. They turned the lights on and after about 15 minutes the ride was up again and we rode. About 2 hours later my dd and ds were in line again with fast passes and they were loaded in the cars when it quit again. After this they closed the ride for the rest of the night. I can't believe we drove 11 hours to Disney and only got to ride Space Mtn. one time. We had two more fast passes to use but couldn't because we were leaving the next day. After that experience, I decided they just need to go ahead and close the ride and get started on the refurbishment. It seemed from hearing the workers talk that this was a common thing lately.

I'm glad I was able to ride this several times in December. I had 4 FP's for the last day I was there and was able to ride it only once and then it shut down. I had to leave by noon for DME to the airport.

Well, it's probably already posted somewhere, but AllEarsNet is reporting that Space Mountain goes down rehab on 4/19/09. The end date just says end of '09.

Sad thats Its going to be down right at the begining of summer,but totatly jucied that its going to be up through our stay(March the 25th to the 2nd of April)

Ughhhh, we arrive April 21st and Space Mountain is my son's favorite ride... oh well, he will have to pick a different favorite for 2009 I guess. I do agree that the refurb needs to be done, the last two times we have been to Disney it broke down at some point during our stay. I don't know if it is because the newer rides are.... well.... newer or what (maybe I'm getting older), but the ride on Space Mountain seemed really rough to me too. I will be looking forward to riding it when we come back on our next trip!
