What's up with Cancellations & Wait Lists?

We have an upcoming trip in November. We have a split-stay in Saratoga/Copper Creek using our DVC membership since we waited to book until we were all vaccinated but would like to convert Saratoga Days into Copper or another resort. I'm surprised that with the state things are in, the waitlist is not triggering and occasional looks at the booking tool are not yielding any results.

I don't want to divert into a discussion of masks - but I know many folks have said if masks came back, they would be canceling their stay. Do you think it's possible that Disney is holding back on allowing these rooms to be re-booked right now? Or people are so desperate to travel that they are not canceling their upcoming stays to the extent some may lead us to believe?

Anyone else noticing any availability changes?

I think DVC members are faced with losing points if they cancel. Those members are more likely to try and rent their reservation rather then cancel
Any cancelations due to mask rules are more likely to occur with cash reservations.

Sometimes what people say and what people actually do are 2 different things. And Lewisc is right...there are more rentals available lately it seems.

Not really helpful for you, but I've noticed a fairly large uptick in regular resort availability for my trip for the 50th (9/29-10/4). A couple weeks ago the only thing available was a 2K/night suite at GF, now there are at least 6-7 different options. So it may still be coming.

I also think the waitlist feature is kind of useless and you're better off stalking the reservation you want. As I understand it (could be wrong), the waitlist isn't an "automatic" thing, it is literally DVC cast checking once a day or something and manually giving you your waitlist request if it becomes available.

I have never had much luck with the waitlist. It is very frustrating. I also have seen, particularly on Facebook, a huge amount of reservations for rent. That is annoying because all of those existing reservations are taking up dates that DVC owners could actually book and use with their own points.

Except those reservations are booked by a DVC owner who did use their own points.

Personally, don’t think it matters who they allow to use it.
