What's this about charging things to your room?

We're staying at the All Star Movies March 5-12. Never really stayed on site (I stayed w/friend's family at OKW). I read some posts about using your room key to "charge" purchases/food to your room? Does this work like the room key on a cruise? You pay it off when you check out? Would someone mind explaining this to me?

Just when I think I know it all, I learn something new!

That's exactly right, you pay off everything that you've charged to your room, when you check out. You can charge purchases as well as meals, to your room. :)

P.S. I grew up in Sayreville and had friends in Keyport :)

you can also have the purchases sent to your room if you don't want to carry them around the parks with you.

BTW, I'm another Jersey Girl (in Monmouth County). :)

Wow, what a "small world", I grew up in Matawan! Anyway, thanks a lot of the info. I am so excited to go on this trip. My hubby makes fun of me for being on this website so much, but he doesn't realize all the great tips and info I'm getting! And I really thought I knew everything about WDW! This trip couldn't come any sooner... and I was there less than a year ago at the end of June 2004!!!

Thanks again:-)

Hi everyone. I'm new to this board. I am kind of a disney veteran, having gone almost every year when I was a kid, but have taken quite a few years off since I had my own family. I was lucky enough to get to go for the first time with my kids last year. Our trip was cut a few days short by one of the hurricanes, but we had a blast anyway. We got to stay with a family member who is a DVC member at WL. DH loved it, so we are going back at the end of FEB. I tried reading as much of this thread as I could, but it is soooo long. How do you get upgraded to concierge? Is it a lot more money? Do they have connecting rooms? (I will be there for 5 nights, and have 2 connecting rooms).. 1 for me and DH and 1 for the 3 kiddies.

Thanks in advance. If I can afford the concierge and it is available, DH will love it.

IMHO room charging is one of the best perks of the onsite resorts--we've always found it makes things a lot easier.

...jersey girl here too...

:charac2: :rockband: singing...it's a world of laughter, a world of tears.............it's a small world after all...

OK, seriously, charging back to your room is the best thng ever, you only have to carry around a very small amount of money and you can pay it before you check-out with cash, or it can be charged to the credit card you gave at check-in.

A couple of clarifications seem to be needed. When you're charging to your room, there is a limit on how much you can charge which varies by resort type. When you've reached that limit, you need to contact guest services to have that amount "dumped" to your credit card, or pay it off, and then you can start fresh with a new balance. We normally have to contact guest services once a stay. I believe the amount for All Stars is $500. If you're travelling with children, you'll also need to decide whether or not to give them charging privileges, and make sure you let the cm at check-in know. Also, there are some stands for ice cream and whatnot that only take cash.

Also, the parcel delivery is actually to the gift shop, instead of your room. It used to be your room, but then there were cutbacks.

Welcome to the Dis. You might have better luck posting your questions in a new thread. WL experts may or may not read this one.
