Besides FOTL pass using hotel room key and the ability to walk to the parks, what other advantages are there to staying on site?

I mean the rooms are tiny for what you pay. The resturaunts and shops are ultra-pricey, what else is there that justifies $300 a night?

I'm just asking.

I've stayed on site at the Royal Pacific once and my stay was fine, there are many niceties that make it somewhat worth it. But the main reason we stay onsite is the FOTL pass.

We are thinking of staying again very soon (April - yeh I know, worst time to go but my daughter has a cheer comp during that time in Orlando) We found the lowest price is about $300 a night. I'm just trying to justify the expense.

Thanks,

I can tell you what justifies the expense for us.... FOTL. Period.

We always go late June/early July and we don't want to spend a lot of money for a vacation to do nothing but stand in line. That doesn't happen staying onsite :teeth:

Also..we don't park/pay for a car there and the tickets (altho we have APs) are so affordable...considering the room is the most expensive part, no big deal...especially if you can snag a good rate (supersaver, aph, etc...)

We are a family of five and don't feel the standard size rooms at the HRH are all that small. RPH standard rooms are a bit smaller, but just like bubba's mom, we stay onsite stricly for the FOTL access.

Last year we had two rooms at POP and still felt cramped :scared:

FOTL!!!!!! And convienence. We are a family of 3 and sometimes 4 when DW brother comes along and find the rooms at RPR just fine. If I was going to spend months there ( I wish ) I would have a bigger room or suite. Normally we are only in the room together to sleep and we spend alot of time lounging around the resorts when not in the parks.

FOTL

No long waits at some restaurants in city walk (priority seating)

No driving during the stay onsite

No rushing in the morning to get to a park

Restaurants in the hotels, parks and city walk

Free concierge for guests' needs

Free print out of airline boarding passes

Pool hopping (towels provided at each pool)

Star service for anything you forgot at home

Hotel key charging (don't have to carry money on me)

Merchandise from the park delivered to your room

Mac summed it up nicely

But quite simply, it makes for a much much more relaxing trip. :cloud9:

Well said!

I also like not having to drive back to a hotel if someone doesn't feel well or having to wait around for them if they want to sleep in. Onsite means worry free. That alone is worth the extra money, but FOTL is the selling point without a doubt! It truly makes for a happy vacation to have the ability to go at the pace I set, not the pace the lines set.

Thanks everyone for the answers. Macraven stated a couple things that I had forgotten about.

I really wish we didnt have to go during the busiest time of the year. But thats what makes the FOTL a necessity.

Oh well. I will just suck it up then.

Like the others said FOTL is the big perk but I haven't found it to be too pricey to eat onsite or at citywalk and sure there are some places that are high but you get that anywhere :thumbsup2

Take Sal's Deli for example; their prices are amazing and the food quality is excellent.

Isn't FOTL an option you can add to your tickets? I thought I read that somewhere. Would that be cheaper for a family of three, instead of paying for a night's stay onsite? I am thinking we would stay at POP, and do Universal/IOA for 2 of the days. Thanks for the input!

It really depends on the room rate if it is cheaper or not, but often it will be cheaper to stay on-site.

If you're off-site, you'd buy Express Pass for 2 days for each person. The cost ranges from $20- $50 per person per day and you can only use Express Pass once per attraction. If you stay on-site a single night, you get UNLIMITED express for the day you check-in and check-out.

Good Luck!

I did the math for our trip and it is definitely less to stay on-site. If you factor in buying the comparable VIP passes at $250.00 a pop (which is the unlimited FOTL pass) plus the cost of a decent hotel off-site, it makes sense to stay on-site. Plus you get the benefit of walking to the park, no worries about driving in/out, parking in the garages, and all of the other perks and conveniences. Definitely worth it. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 See - the math all works out!!

Enjoy!!

Yep- What everyone here has already posted! $300 sounds high for RPR but if you are going over Easter break, it suppose that would be right. Have you tried AAA discount. Sometimes, Orangevacations.com has lower rates but there is a cancellation fee. Good Luck at the cheering competition!

I agree, it does sound high but then again, we never go at peak times. With our AP discount it ranges between $129-174, depending on the day of the week and which hotel. My neighbor only goes at peak times and is used to almost $300/nt. She says it's still worth it. You have to stay somewhere.
