just wondering?

i know with us visiting our resort pool more then twice is a miricle since we always say we'll go after the park to relax but we almost always just hit our room and get ready for bed (even our last trip when we were on the ground floor about 100 feet from the pool.

do those who pool hop not go to the parks often?

we usually go for 12 days with a 10 day park pass leaving 2 days to explore the resort we're in but this year we're going for 14 and getting water park passes too we we still wont have time to go swimming at other resorts.

how do you guys do it - and why.

We've only done it once, it was fun. But here's the mindset. Its usually on a day off from the parks. We are planning on going over to CSR for the first time, to try their pool. We're staying at BCV while we do this. Otherwise, I would consider pool hopping on any given park day, in the afternoon for our break. Instead of going back to the resort, hop a bus to another resort and try their pool for a couple of hours with a backpack stored in a locker at the parks. Its just a way to try other resorts pools. Oh, and we're also taking another day off and going back to our "first home", POR, and going on their awesome slide, love that thing. And then going to their lounge to enjoy Bob Jackson for the first time. Fun trip ahead!:)

We always pool hop and we love it. Last summer we were there for 11 days I think and we only went in parks 4 days. We swam a lot and just relaxed. It is a tradition to us to always hit the Poly pool and me lay out on the beach. We also love the OKW pool. It is just fun. This summer we're going for 19 days and I actually plan my dining around where I might end up at the pool!! We also get premium annual passes and so if we only go into a park for a meal we don't feel we've wasted a ticket or anything. I love to just lay at the pool and my kids are thrilled with swimming the whole trip. We usually sleep late, put on our bathing suits and go swimming and then go to a nice dinner. Usually dinner is where they are having pm EMH that night. So-it feels good-we are rested, tan, fed, and get to ride our rides with little to no wait. PERFECT!!!

Pool-hopping is one of the membership perks we've enjoyed most. Where we "hopped" to varied according to the ages of our 2 girls. Storm along Bay was the best when it was still available. The pool at the Poly was also a favorite. And, after spending 2 nights w/ the Disney Collection at the GF, I wondered why we never "hopped" over there. I don't need to go back to the pool at BWV, however. We know, since we're DVC members, that we'll be going back to WDW. So, we don't do the parks commando style. If we were there for 6 days, it would not be unusual for us to only spend 3 days in the parks. :cool2:

We've only hopped once, over to the Poly - it was sort of a pain in the back end, honestly. But for us, it was check out day - so we couldn't go back to the room, we were at the Magic Kingdom and only had about half a day of stuff to do and going to have dinner at the California Grill - so the Poly pool was different and convienent - which can be a big factor with pool hoppers - who wants to go all the way back to SSR when you want an hour or two in the pool midday? And the kids got the thrill of swimming in a different pool - using a different pool slide.

My kids are pool kids - they swim every day at WDW - its as an important part of the vacation to them as the rides. And some variety in pools is nice.

Our 3 kids are pool kids as well. I think there would be a revolt if we tried to take them to the parks more than 3 or 4 days out of 10. The kids will be in line for this or that and be asking can't we just go back and go swimming at ....? We have been to Disney almost 20 times in the last 12 years so it's not like they don't get to do all the stuff. Once the new attractions have been done and the favorites revisited they want to go exploring and find something new at WDW. Fortunatly that always still seems to be possible. We have found so many fun things and places just exploring. We have also meet some really fantastic CM's who clued us in to all kinds of treasure hunts.

Honestly, don't your kids get a little frazzled being in the parks that much? Aside from the fun stuff, the lines and people get a little overwhelming some days. You can see it on the faces of so many parents and kids who have just been pushed to the breaking point.

We usually do it when we want to do something at the other reosrt. For instance, pool hop to Poly and then go to the luau or watch Wishes etc.

I think it is a good perk but your milage my vary

So far, we've only pool hopped once...We were at BWV for one night and hopped to SSR because the BWV pool was too crowded.

In general, we prefer to use the pool at our own resort only because it's usually more convenient, but at some point I would be curious to try the pool at the GF (as a fun activity in and of itself along with exploring the GF, or if at the MK and wanting a break without schlepping back to our own resort). The pyramid pool at CSR seems intriguing.

I can also see pool hopping to be lots of fun if we have friends staying at another resort (most of our friends are not DVC members, so they would not be able to hop to us). We've planned one vacation with friends at VB this spring, and see us coordinating vacations with friends at WDW.

In terms of amount of pool time: every day weather permitting. The parks are not the center of our vacations at all. We tend to be very laid back vacationers. Even on the only "commando" vacation we did in 2003, we spent mornings in the parks, and the afternoons were at the pool. Evenings were for dining and relaxing.

We participate in a rat race every day at home; we don't want to do that on vacation, so the pool is an important feature for us. Pool hopping is just the icing on the cake :thumbsup2

Tried it won't do it again. I am far too lazy and it is way too much hassle for me to pack up the three kids dh and I just to swim at another pool.

My sentiments as well, LOL. Pool water is pool water to me. :) :)

Back in the days, we hopped over to SAB because my guys really liked it and there wasn't a DVC there. And we used to hop over to WL once in a while. Now we just use our pool or go to the water park.

The reason for pool hopping?

The water is different. Some are wetter that others!!

Have you asked for the water test kit offered at the front desk?

The scale is form 1 to 10 with 10 being the wetest.

It has been said the wetter the water, the faster the slide.

We did once when we were staying at BWV. It was kind of a cool day so no one was at BCV so they didn't mind that day. I tell you what, I would never do it at anyother place or ever again. It was a big enough pain to walk over to the BCV from BWV. I couldn't imagine taking the time to get to another resort to go to there pool. But we are usually at BCV, SSR or AKV anyways and we love the pools at all three.

I was under the impression that DVC members could pool-hop at the DVC resorts (excluding AK & BC). Are you able to pool-hop to other Disney resorts like the Poly?

I am curious about this too. Sure seems like I have missed something in that regard.

That pretty much wraps it up for me also but I own at the BC so my kids think they already have the best pool.

Yes, the only pool that we have pool hopped to was to the one at PO Riverside. It's a great pool, and we enjoy breakfast at Boatwrights! There's a wonderful fishing hole there that we're going to use someday too!

On the contrary, DVC members can pool hop to NON-DVC resort pools, but NOT to some of the DVC pools like at BC or AKV.
