After looking over the posts, it seems like some threads get a lot more action than others, and the same renters seem to be responding to all of them...
Do you want to rent a reservation from a member or are you a member who wants to rent out your points?
Ahhh, I saw your request on the R/T board. Offering a higher price for points works. Longer stays requiring more points works. Not requesting impossible times (next week at the BWV for example or 4th of July at the BCV).
What doesn't work: Mentioning your darling princess will be going on her first WDW trip. This is a business for lots of members. They want your money.
That said, we use our points and never rent them out.
I noticed also that you have only 8 posts. Some people prefer to do business with someone who's been around the DIS awhile, although it's usually more important the other direction of renting.
You are also wanting to go in October. I spent several days recently on the phone with MS trying to find any dates in October that were available for a renter that I had. There weren't any at BW, since that's when the Food and Wine Festival is going on over at Epcot. My renter decided to go the end of September, when it starts, and when we could get reservations.
You need to keep your request thread active and near the top where people who have points to rent out can find it. I would suggest that you keep your request "bumped" up to the top once a day. Some renters (such as myself) will look back at least a week for people who are still looking, but I would say that most renters just look on the first page or two.
FWIW, I don't care about someone's post count when they are renting from me. I do care about my price, though . So if you're trying to low-ball for your reservation that will make it harder to find someone to rent from.
Depends on the member. They may charge you extra fees for daily calling if that is required or anything else their little heart desires. Usually, the price is the price per point times the number of points. Some non-members will pay the Paypal fees for the member in order to use Paypal.
It's not misinformation. The truth is the owner could charge for "anything". It's not exactly a legislated environment.
(And considering some of the expectations on both sides I figure I would have to make more then the current rate to waste my time on renting my points! If I can't use them, I give them to friends and if it gets to the point that I consistently can't use I will just sell!)
I suppose members could add things on, however each time we rent we simply pay the point cost. No extras or taxes. We have had great renting experiences.
And if the State of Florida had any sense, it would start monitoring the web and tax those who are running a rental business. Some folks have reached the stage where they should be collecting sales and resort taxes.
