What's the scope with cameras and carry-ons for air flight?

:sad2: Does anyone know the official stand here? I know international flights are having stricter rules with carry-ons and they are not allowing cameras or laptops from what I understand. I understand no liquids anywhere on flights "from" or "to" here. Are these rules permanent or is it only during the higher security alert situation? I sure don't want to put my camera or video equipment into unlocked checked in luggage. My video camera has a built in digital camera; so, I'm assuming this may not be allowed, either. I can understand the need for these procedures, so, I'll go without taking pics or video, if necessary for my Disney World trip coming up.

I have good equipment and I can't afford to replace it. Even with insurance I couldn't replace the value of the equipment. I may take an older digital camera and not care if it gets stolen, etc. I want to make an intelligent decision about it all; so, I'm asking for official info.

Can you rent video equipment at Disney World in all of the parks? I've not heard of renting; so, I would appreciate an answer there, too. Does anyone know the costs, if you can rent?

:sad2: :sad2:

FYI-from what I heard on the news last night, the plan was to mix benign fluids to form an explosive, then use a camera flash to ignite it. I do know that on international flights ALL electronics are banned in carry on bags (cell phones, computers, video games, dvd players, music players, etc). I think theyre still allowed on US flights, but I wouldnt be surprised if that changes.

YIKES-no laptops?? That will be a huge issue for a LOT of people. I don't normally open mine on the plane, but I do NOT want it going in the luggage hold. I'd get to OIA and have nothing but an expensive paperweight. I'm fine with them storing it in a locked closet while we're on board, but PLEASE don't ask me to put it in checked baggage.

Go check out the TSA's website - that will give you the updates that began affecting travel as of yesterday.

www.tsa.org

Laptops, cameras, cell phones and other electronic items ARE allowed.

This is a link to the FAQ page from yesterday's new guidelines:

HTH!

Should actually be www.tsa.gov. I got a laugh when I linked to www.tsa.org and got the Texas Assoc of Anesthesiologists (I'm sure that's spelled wrong). :rotfl:

Not only that, but not to mention that many corporate laptops carry sensitive data. Even encrypted drives can be hacked. I know my company would never condone leaving our laptops in checked baggage. I have a flight to NY on Monday and there is no way my laptop is going below.

My company sent out a warning today.

It appears that electroincs are still allowed on internatinal flights just not flights between the UK and the US. So if you are in London and need to fly to the US they are "re-routing" you and your laptop back to someplace like Frankfurt and then home.

The tone was pretty clear, do NOT check your laptop (as ours do tend to have client data)

If you want to see the bottom drop out of US travel and watch a few airlines go under ban laptops on board.

You might want to post this question in the transportation board. This board is for theme park, etc. Sorry, don't flame me!

Thanks!

I can't imagine them being allowed to do this. They do not take good care of anything, and like everyone else said businesses have important info on there. I mean, I guess they could do anything, but I think they would have a lot of big business not happy!

1) Currently, TSA is allowing laptops, DVD's, iPOds, etc on domestic flights.
2) If they decide otherwise, there won't be an argument.
3) You don't take it inside the airplane cabin.
4) If you don't want to check it, you don't fly.
5) Remember, flight is not a right, it is a privilege.

I just got home yesterday evening from Orlando and no one told me that I couldn't have my digital camera in my carry on.The security was thouroughly inspecting every bag. You no longer can have shampoo, toothpaste, sun tan lotion, liquid makeup, hair gel, hair spray, etc., on the plane in your carry on. But I read on MSN today that the rules may even get stricter. Such as cameras, cell phones.

Wow....chill out first of all. Second of all, there will be an argument from big companies if their laptops keep getting destroyed and then, sure....they will just stop flying and then the airlines would suddenly change their mind becaues they no longer had enough business to support themselves! I am not saying little old me can do anything against airlines, please they could care less....but businesses that send hundreds of people everday on flights....they are gonna take care of them.

Well, if it comes down to making big business happy and my safety, I really hope my safety comes first! I'm sure it wouldn't be good for any business if the airplanes blow up in mid air either.

1) Thats how The RustyScupper writes :smooth:
2) While there may be some barganing between Homeland Security/TSA and the carriers, they will always lean on the side of safety.
3) Who knows, if they no longer allow laptops, the laptop industry will be dealt a severe blow, as the majority of users are business users. :confused3:
4) Maybe there is a rather robust opportunity here for the secure transportation of business technology for the business traveler. :scratchin:

Well, laptops are an absolute necessity for a lot of business-people who travel. If laptops were banned, I think you'd just see an increase in corporations purchasing or leasing their own planes and using them instead. Many companies, even medium sized companies, already have these planes available. Many are mainly used for executive travel, but usage could easily be expanded.
