Oh, In Cold Blood was scary especially because it was true The scariest I ever read was Stephen King's Salem's Lot......read it as a young teen and the dang thing scared the crap out of me
Stephen King's It did IT for me. But then I fear clowns to begin with....
Of course, Charles Manson's Helter Skelter is nothing to sneeze at either.

I read the Exorcist when I was in jr. high. Scared the heck out of me and I ended up putting the book in the garage, and then finally threw it away. Then I read Alfred Hitchcock's short stories -- years later & I still remember them ::::shudder:::: Then, when I was 19 or so I read Helter Skelter - that one really scared me, especially since it was true. You'd think I'd stop reading scary books, but I read some Dean Koontz books - couldn't even finish Intensity
I love SK but Dean Koontz is so much more scarier than SK hands down!
I think it was Dragon Tears I read when I was real young--At the beginning the story talks about the little kid in his room who is convinced there is something under his bed so he shoves one of those plastic wiffle ball bats under there and whatever is under there GRABS it!
Oh yeah-Scared the crap outta me!! After that I would jump off my bed to land about 3 feet over just incase there was anything under my bed!!
That book hooked me on Dean Koontz--I just picked up "The Face" so we'll see what he has me doing to avoid the boogeyman soon enough!!
