Sorry this is a bit disturbing but we were at the DLH from 8/20 to 8/28 and everyday 2-3 times a day they had to shut the large pool because someone pooped in the pool. I have never had anything like this happen and I'm a WDW vet (30+ trips). It was really annoying and it wasn't like it was the same person. We stopped using the pool but noticed it happening over and over and over. The lifeguards were also very frustrated. I mean they were leaving baskets of swim diapers around complimentary for people to use.

That's ridiculous! Poor staff! Managing a restaurant I clean up a lot of feces and vomit (I can't believe that is a true statement)--would be freaking out if I had to deal with something like that multiple times a day.

This happens at the WDW resorts as well. Agree that its irresponsible parents.

It stinks (no pun intended) that parents are so irresponsible and lazy these days. If I ever take my daughter into a public pool, she is definitely in a swim diaper, and she is with me at all times. I know when she is about to poop.....I will see the face she makes, and I would take her our right away. She usually only poops first thing in the morning and in the evening after dinner, so I have never even had her poop in a swim diaper.

I would be MORTIFIED if it was my kid that caused the pool to close!

I didn't say it that it didn't occur at WDW but I have never had it happen everyday, multiple times a day. It was ridiculous. And as I said it wasn't a single offender where they could be spoken to.

Unfortunately, this is also a big problem on the Disney Cruises. Many irresponsible parents who just don't care about others as long as their little darlings get to go into the pool. It's disgusting and a health hazard! :sad2:

I was at DL resort last August. My one day for the pool, yup, poop in the pool shut it down. The slides were still open, so I tooled down those, lol.:rotfl2:

What REALLY REALLY ticked me off, was the parents of lots of young kids then took their toddlers into the DL Hotel HOT TUB with them, because the pool was closed. Umm, were they the same kids that pooped in the pool, who knows?? Either way, they made me nervous. :crazy2:

I do not like young kids in the hot tubs at the Disney resorts, they swim underwater, clunk into me, talk loudly, whine, etc. I am looking to relax, people! :beach:

Oh, and I have had the "Baby Ruth in the pool" several times at WDW resort pools, over the years.

hmm...I was just thinking to myself, "huh, i have never seen that happen and we go to the pools at the resorts all the time", but I just remembered from our last trip a couple weeks ago that the big pool at the GCH was drained one evening when we were walking to our room. I wonder it that is why. Certainly makes sense. Ewww.

.

I'm not a fan of young kids in a hot tub either. If the hot tub is empty- then fine. But kids will be kids & when in water- they must swim & play. ;) this is tough to do in a hot tub but when you add in a few adults, it's just too much!

I always try & be respectful of others & won't allow my DS in a full hot tub. Plus, kids can get overheated very easily. Which can lead to puking- trust me, I know! Puking kids- Blech! Not a relaxing vacation at all! ;)

eww gross. Does DLH have an adults only pool?

That wouldn't help anything. Adults poop, too! The staff at the YMCA DS takes swim lessons at say that it's about half/half adults/children who cause the code browns. Disgusting but true!

Thankfully I've never dealt with it at Disney, BUT I would say that the DLH pools would probably be the best for it, since the slide water is separate, the hot tub is separate, and they have two entirely separate pools, if I recall correctly. So if one is closed, the other should still be open.

We've stayed at DLH a few times over the years...the pools have been closed every time that we tried to use them! I've never been able to get into the pool there because of it!

The slides closed while we were there last week. I believe it was vomit, not poop, but I could be wrong. It was actually the red slide, the bigger one, that had the substance, so it was either a much older kid or an adult.
I can't imagine letting a non-potty trained kid swim without a swim diaper either, seems strange. So maybe its not just babies causing the problem? (I should note that they were giving out disposable swimmies and I personally think cloth swim diapers do a better job of containing poop, so maybe they have leaks?)

DLH does have 2 separate large pools, the slide area (2 pools but they shut down together) and separate hot tubs. So if one is closed you still have a place to swim.

We were there from Aug 27-Sept 2 and it happened at least once every day. At least there's more then one pool you can use.

One thing many around us commented on was that the whole situation could be dealt with a little better. Most pools will put up cones around the pool but at the DLH the lifeguards would just yell "get out of the pool". It never failed, you would see some poor kid running into the pool thinking this is awesome....I've got the pool to myself and then get yelled at to get out of the pool.

Maybe Disney should institute the policy that my neighborhood pool has (private for residents only.) Once an hour for about 10 minutes, all children must leave the pool. Period. The employees get all kids out of the pool. It a great time for kids to use the potty, get a snack or drink, get a refresher on sunscreen, etc. The pool is packed with kids each summer and averages about 2 "code browns" the entire summer. Yeah, it's a bummer if the child got in 5 minutes ago and has to get out again, but it's only 10 minutes and hey, it works.

I think often it is toddlers that are newly potty trained and the parents are so proud that they do not have to wear a diaper anymore. But that area can relax in the water and suddenly they have to go and even though a kid knows to run to the potty at home/hotel room, much different when in the middle of the pool.

I'm another that doesn't like kids horsing around in the hot tub. IF they would get in an just sit there it would be find but as people said they don't. The last two or three trips I took I had young kids jumping in off the steps getting me soaked in the face which I don't like or want (I don't go in the pool) and then they swim around and run into you or whatever. It is just annoying and NOT relaxing. Again I have NO problem with kids in there if they behave but the splashing and jumping should be reserved for the pool.

And having kids on swim team I have seen the code brown's but not too much.

They don't literally drain the pool and scrub it do they? Do they just add extra chlorine and check bacteria levels? What do they do?

I'm going to knock on wood that I've never seen this IRL. I'm at our association pool several times every week and I've never seen a code brown. Dear lord I would flip out!
