What's the oddest thing you've seen on a wedding registry?

Last year I was invited to a bridal shower. When I got to the store she'd registered at and got the wedding registry printed out, one of the things she had registered for was a toilet brush... really! Granted it was in a "nice" stainless steel container but still - a toilet brush?!

What have you seen on a wedding registry that just made you shake your head?

These came from two different couples

Pooper Scooper

Birth control (of the latex variety) ;)

We got some friends some kind of stand for a saw that was on the registry for Home Depot. I was pregnant and on bed rest at the time, or I would have gone to Macy's on my lunch hour and gotten something more traditional. The bride told us later that the groom was thrilled that someone actually got them something he wanted!

I thought tools at the Home Depot was odd too. And I am not talking one or two either, there were like fifty different tools on there!! But I guess the weirdest part was when I attended the BRIDAL shower, the gifts were almost all the tools, from hammers to rakes to power drills!! My gift (I was a friend of the bride) and the bride's mother were the only ones who bought more traditional gifts. I guess maybe this is the way now, but to me it seemed like it was the groom's birthday or something, not a bridal shower, get it, BRIDE!!

Video games, surfing videos, incense and holders. And no, they are not teenagers, there are 29! Thought their list was very odd but to each his own.

I must say we did the more traditional list, china, glassware ect. However if you knew my husband and how much Coke he drinks in a day you would understand why we registered for coke on our list at target. No we didnt get any and didnt really expect to but we would have loved it if we did. Our family and friends had a big laugh about it. It was the one thing my husband really wanted and it was so totally him that I let him put it on the list.
We got more questions and upset comments over our choice of sheets and thread count (too expensive, who would buy that, ect.) then the coke. To each his own I guess. :confused3

a dog house, video game system, video games, basketball goal, basketball, about 10 different colors of sheets and towels (for a three bed, two bath house), money (was actually listed), and some pretty sketchy underwear and sleepwear (little pictures were placed by the items).

BTW, this list was sent WITH the invitations. There were mundane household items (dishes, glasses, etc.), but there was far more of this sort of stuff. My MIL actually counted the number of items on the list and there were over 400 things on that list. Like I said, the list came with the invitation as well as a little note that went like this: "We only want the things on the enclosed list. We don't need other items, although we would LOVE to be surprised with a honeymoon."

I'm not making this up. My imagination is not that good.

The groom was currently "out of work" (a pretty much continuous thing with him). We figured he needed the toys to keep him busy while the bride was at work.

Cell phone, xbox, games, kids toys, a wide variety of stuff

My cousin had, I kid you not, corn picks and coffee filters among other things on her 10-page list from Target. This was in addition to other stores she was registered to today.

The DH, his nephew and wife to be, registered at Target as well. They had over 1000 items. :confused3 Dishwashing soap, underwear :earseek: You name it, they wanted it.

I'm a chick and I like tools. If someone gave me a wireless drill I'd be tickled pink!

I've seen fetish stuff on bridal registries... Like the gagging ball and chaps (not like the one western cowboys wear).

Yes. I would agree, what could full grown men do without their toys?

car parts-yup, they listed the make, model, part (apparantly "grand auto" does not have a wedding registry service :)

I thought wallpaper border was kindof "strange". But, hey, they were a young college couple who truely needed everything.

Lots of people today are marrying later in life, often after already being out on their own for years. As a result, they already have all the "traditional" wedding gifts like cookware, kitchen appliances, linens, etc. They just don't need more of that stuff. They already own a home and have it decorated and furnished. So they register for less traditional gifts, like tools, entertainment items and luxuries.

The one problem we've seen with this is that the registries often include mainly higher priced items. A lot of folks use the wedding registry as an opportunity to upgrade some of the stuff they already have. So instead of asking for basic towels that are a few dollars each, they register for fancy designer towels that are $30 each. Or they ask for upscale cookware like Calphalon where one piece may be $100 or more. That's great if you've got a rich family, but I think it makes it difficult for a lot of the guests to pick something off the registry.
