Just wonder what the longest you have pulled your kids out of school to go to Disney and what do you think is to long to take a kid out?

My kids are going to miss 8 days during our 3 week vacation...they have lots of flex fridays, a few teachers convention and a stat holiday in there so it works out great with us and the schools are awesome about working with the kids as i discussed this with them last year and this was the least days they would miss as we were going to do a week in Jan 2010, but that month is exams so didnt work well so they suggested this time.....

I voted "two weeks" because in 2006 we went twice ( Jan. & early May) during the school year. My kids missed 11 school days over the course of those two trips.

The most my kids ever missed for Disney was 3 days. This was when my oldest was in 3rd gr. and the youngest wasn't in school. After this we always went when they were on vacation.

The longest was a week but that was a few years ago. Our last Disney vacation, my kids missed 3 days since we went over the Thanksgiving holiday. And we did our June Universal trip 2 days after the school year ended.

Next year, we will be taking them out for a week for our cruise.

My kids usually miss 5 school days. This year...by happy accident..they'll only miss 4 because Monday is a teacher work day.

Avery isn't in school yet but we are already planning a second trip with some family friends in 2 years when she will be....we are going to take her out for about a week to go in December.

I really think it depends on the age of the kids and what all they do in school...what would them miss, how easily can they catch up etc.

I guess I'm in the minority. We don't take our kids out of school for vacations. We took our WDW trip over Christmas break. We have plenty of school vacations, not to mention 2 entire months in the summer. We can schedule our trips during those times. This is just our way of looking at it.

I agree. Like I said the most was 1 time for 3 days and my DD was a 3rd grader she is a senior now! so it doesn't happen. That year was a special case after my Mom's death.

I homeschool my kids so no problem we can go whenever. And I must say its really nice to go when everyone else is in school. :):woohoo:

We've only pulled the kids out of school for one trip. They missed 5 days. They were in 3rd grade, Kinder and Pre-school. The school had no problem with it and they were very strong students.

I will never do it again. Just because they are now in High School , Middle School and 4th grade. They would miss soooo much now. AND our school has strict policy. If any tests or quizzes are given while you are gone for your 'unexcused absence' then you have to take a ZERO for that test. That could kill a GPA.

I took my niece last year for 2 weeks and she is going again this year for 2 weeks (Grade 1). Not sure if my sister even told the teacher or the school yet, and we arrive in 14 days!

This is her last trip for a while. She can't keep missing 2 weeks every year! It's time for her little sister to get a turn to go with Auntie. I can get a least one trip in before she will miss any school.

My kids have missed a total of 4 school days for two trips. We used to go Thanksgiving week and in late Jan. quite often. We get the entire week of thanksgiving off so we would pull them 2 days to go with that and then in Jan. they would miss 1 or 2 days because they always get 2 days off and it would fall near a weekend. However once my older daughter was in high school and even my older son in 8th grade the one year......all they did was complain about the missed work after Thanksgiving. So as they got older we would pull them ONE day in Nov. and ONE day in Jan.

Out of our 7 trips, we've only gone once during the school year. DD#1 was in the 3rd grade and DD#2 wasn't in school yet. #1 missed 3 days. Now we plan our trips during school vacation.

None. They miss waaay too much especially in math. Our school district allows for up to 5 unexcused absenses . Teachers will not give out work they will be missing. It's up to the student to find out what was missed and make it up when they get back. So not worth it.

I was the person who polled 3 weeks.

When my son was in middle school I did pull him out for 3 weeks to go on a family vacation but it was not to WDW. That was over 12 years ago and I wouldn't be able to that now with the new restrictions on absences.

The most the kids are allowed to miss are 11 days where I live. That includes sick and vacation time off. If your child is absent more than that, the school takes you to court. Unfortionately, we are forced to go when he has a break from school. The most he has missed for vacations is 4 days.
