Now that my dd will be starting college next fall, and my ds will be done with college we can take longer vacations. I would really love to stay at Ft Wilderness January and February. I know thats not possible just yet, but it would be great to spend a month there. I find it a very relaxing place, and to get out of the northeast for the winter would be great!

Wow, we've been thinking about the same thing. Now that DVC will let you use points to stay at a campsite, we have enough points to stay around 6 weeks. I'm two years away from retirement and our first trip will be a long stay at FW. :cool1:

Our longest trip so far has been 24 days, last Christmas and New Years. We are going for 20 days this Christmas. We just cannot get enough of the Fort. If we ever have good sense enough to retire we would like to spend 2 to 3 months a year.

Our longest stay so far is 6 weeks. However, once my dd's start the Disney College program, I'll be taking a "pre-tirement" and staying down there with them at FW for 5 months. The plan is to do that for a few years until they graduate. During our last trip, the people across the street from us were there for a 3 month stay ....... it is surprisingly common for a lot of retired folks.

We have points at VWL and think its great we can now use our points for the campsite. Ft. Wilderness is the perfect vacation spot for us. We can all have a great time, and take our 5 lb. yorkie with us too.

28 days last July/August. It always amazes me how fast it flies by.

Wow, ya'll spend some serious time there!!

I was thinking my 14 nights 15 days there coming up in December was long!!

However, I too am aspiring to spend two-three months there when we retire!!!

We used to stay there for 2 weeks at a time when my brother and I were growing up, now our longest stay is for a week each November at Thanksgiving (annual family get together).

I thought Disney had a limit on how long you could stay at a campsite, is that no longer the case?

All you need are multiple reservations (each limited to 14 days) and a LOT of MONEY.

I was thinking that if you are paying rack, you could have a reservation up to 30 days. It's only the various discounts that limit you to 10-14 day reservations.

But yes, in most cases multiple reservations are allowed. Some people stay there for several months.

Yep, I just double checked on the WDW website, and it priced me 30 nights in October for $1383.90 for a partial hookup. Preferred full hookup was quoted as $1856.40. Standard full hookup was quoted as $1552.50.

:stir: I am waiting for MrsGus to chime in

Well, the wait is over! Here I am, fresh back from another 5 night stay at the Ft (thanks Mom and Dad for letting us crash your motorhome :cool1: ). Got down there Tuesday night, Wednesday morning, and just arrived back home today, had a blast!

Now, back to the original question. The longest we have stayed is 72 nights. As a matter of fact, went to the website earlier to book Jan 07 trip, but they are only giving the cabin prices and I am trying to talk hubby into pulling the fifth wheel down for the week and coming back to get us. Also, yes, I am now trying to figure out next summers dates to start booking and paying for those dates. Thinking about 6 weeks because there is still two more rooms to renovate and also a new front porch so I need to get the kiddos out of the house. :teeth:

I called that one right ! :rotfl:

We're thinking about lengthy stays ourselves. We'll retire fully (I've already retired from one job and am working on another) in about 10 years. Instead of a DVC, we're planning on using the money for a nice fifth wheel. We love Yellowstone, too. So, our plan is July-September in Yellowstone, and January/Feb. in WDW. We love October in WDW, too, so that may be part of the plan.

One thing I was wondering, why not a DVC park for RV people? I know you can use your DVC points at FW, but I'm talking about an DVC specifically for an RV park. I've been reading where FW occupancy rates are rising during the winter months, and I am concerned about limiting stays down the road when more of "us" (boomers) hit retirement age.

I bring up the issue of a Fort Wilderness DVC every time they send me one of those surveys after we stay there. I have suggested it every year for about the last 10 years ...... even suggested they locate it in the old River Country area. At least they appear to be listening, as DVC points are able to be used now at FW for the campsites. Hopefully, that is the start of something bigger to come.
