This summer we will have owned our Mercury Villager 9 years.....that's the longest I've had one car!!! I like my van, tho!:D

The shortest time was 8 months......hubby had bought a brand new F150 truck ( a few years ago) thinking it would work nicely into the budget.......it didn't. :o :D

We went through a string of bad luck for 2 years with cars. We could only afford old beat up cars at the time and for some reason the cosmics decided that they didn't like the string of cars we bought. In 2 years we had 6 accidents so therefore 6 cars. We sat around the table at the 1 year anniversary of the 1st accident saying we were glad that year was over and so was the 3 accidents. My dh & ds went to the mall that night. They came home with a wrecked car. That 2nd year we went through 3 cars as well. They were all accidents and none of them were our fault but because the cars were old we didn't even get the money we paid for them back. We never park at the end of an isle now (a 18 wheeler decided to bring our car with it) and are very carefull around hills. Also, stop lights at 8 in the morning are scary because of drunk drivers.

We've had our 2nd car (used to be our first) - 1997 Suzuki Esteem for 6 years now...it's been a good, economical car.

I had a 1993 Chevy Stepside truck with a Corvette engine/transmission in it for about 10 months. Couldn't afford to keep that baby on the road - about $800/mo for payment, insurance, gas and maintenance. :earseek: So needless to say, I gave that one the old

The shortest was a Subaru back in 1984 for 4 months. They took it back, what a piece of junk.

Longest was a 1993 Ford F-150. I had it for 5 years.

Shortest - VW Jetta in the late 80's - I owned it less than one year. Brand new, it was a gift from my parents. Boy, was it a lemon. It would stall everwhere for no apparent reason. This was before I had my cell phone so whenever it stalled, I was at the mercy of pay phones to get a tow. Once, I had to go into a strip club (can I say that here?) to get change and use their pay phone. Can you believe they didn't want to give me change? So I just sat there on a bar stool and started checking out all their patrons ("hey, don't I know you from church?"). Well, that got me change in a hurry.

20 years for our camaro

4 years for an old car that was in an accident.

herc.

We usually own ours 5-9 yrs. Don't remember getting rid of one sooner.

Had my 92 Geo Prizm for 8 glorious years (it never gave me a problem). I finally traded it in for a Malibu in 2001. That's the longest.

I had a beat up Plymouth Duster for 2 whole days. It cost $250 and it croaked completely in that time period. My Dad lectured me for weeks after that fiasco. "Don't you ever go buy a car without me looking at it first, yada, yada, yada". I was young and stupid, what can I say?;)

LONGEST.....My first brand new car I bought on my own...a 1988 Beretta GT.....9 years!!! I loved that car, even when we traded it in and you could barely turn the steering wheel or push the gas peddle!!!! They actually gave me 1500 for it too!!! I know there was tons wrong with it...but it was after my 2nd child and now way could I handle 2 little kids (in car seats) in a 2 door...then we went to a mini van!!

Everytime I see a Beretta on the road...I still get teary eyed!!!

Longest is about 9 years. Shortest is about 6 years.

We usually keep our cars for 10 years! We alternate buying a new car for me and my wife every five years.

The shortest time was a car I bought from a coworker, many years ago! It last about three months before completely falling apart. Learned my lesson there! :)

My h had a van for about 20 years. He finally got rid of it a couple years ago. We've had a motorcycle for 18 years.
I don't know anything that we've had for a short time period.

 my son wins the prize in our house for shortest time!
His first car lasted about 2 months then died
his 2nd car he had 6 days before it was totaled ( no one hurt)
his 3rd car he made it about 6 months before it got rear ended and totaled ( by his best friend, no one hurt)
crossing fingers he has had current car about 1 yr.

Daughter had her 1st car about 1 month before she was hit and her car was totaled ( bad injuries but ok now)

longest was a blaiser that we had about 10 yrs.

Shortest: 72 Mustang, 8 months
Longest: 84 Camaro...still have it :)

The longest - Our 1987 Toyota 4 Runner - bought in new in 87 and still have it. Our son drives it.

The shortest - When we first got married (83) my DH bought a 1973 Capri, he had it about a week when we had an ice storm. He hit a patch of black ice, slid down a large embankment and flipped it. Bent the frame and basically totalled it - so 7-10 days. He was okay by the way.

Owned a 1986 Mustang GT for 13 years (I miss that car) :( and the shortest I've owned is probably my 2002 Expedition which I am selling after 1 1/2 years (I over bought and don't need this large a vehicle 99% of the time it's jus tme in it so...it goes)

I had a car that I had for 8 years, put 135,000 miles on it.:teeth:

I had a used lemon of a car that I had for about 4 months. I think I put about 600 miles on that car.

Let me think....

The shortest time I've owned a car was our 1984 Ford Escort. We had it for about 2 1/2 years in Alaska. Paid about $1500 for that car and the last 3 months we were there it just burned out. Wasn't that perfect timing?

The longest time I've owned a car is my 1999 VW Jetta. DH and I got it in November of 98. So Nov of this year will be 5 years of owning a car. Oh yeah...it's paid for too. I paid off my Jetta back in October of 2000. Paid off the car 3 years early to be exact...isn't that too cool??!! :teeth:

I purchased a new Saturn (wasn't my first choice, but I had enough cash to pay for it) for $14000.

It lasted 2 days! Unbelievably, the transmission failed! They towed it back to the dealership and I immediately decided to cancel, refund and purchase my first choice (Intrepid) even thought I'd have to finance about $4000. To me, it was a sign that I should have gone with my first choice anyway!
