** Sigh ** they grow so fast!!! Sad to say the day is arriving too quickly...my son (just turned 5 in March) has had a loose tooth for almost a month now and that little tooth looks about ready to pop out so we've been trying to prepare ourselves for that visit in the middle of the night. This is our 1st born so we've been trying to figure out the going rate for the tooth fairy??

I've heard anywhere from .25 to 10.00 per tooth, more for the 1st tooth and then a lower set amount per tooth afterwards, and other ideas but would love to see what people are doing these days. 20 something years ago me & my siblings got $1.00 per tooth and I figure inflation, cost of living, etc. has gone up for 5 year olds too :rotfl2: so $1.00 seems low to me but on the other hand $10.00 per tooth/30 teeth seems a little steep. Any different ideas too... Lets see what all the fellow disers have done????

Our tooth fairy brough $5 for the first tooth and $2 for each tooth thereafeter.

Denae

$5 for the first and $1.50 for the others. My DD was so bummed that she didn't get a quarter from the tooth fairy like it shows in all the books so we have added the 2 quarters.

Ooh...Sorry if this seems a bit OT, but this just reminded me of something cute my mom did for me when I lost a tooth (a week or so before we were going to Disney World). She gave me one Disney Dollar underneath my pillow, and wrote out this cute little note from the "Tooth Fairy" that said something like:

"Dear Jessica, Tinkerbell just told me that you are going to Disney World soon! So, I thought you might like having one of these very special Disney Dollars to spend there. Have lots of fun!". I was six at the time, and that was one of the coolest things ever for a kid who'd been raised a Disney Nut since birth. :teeth:

Other than that...I used to get anywhere from $2-$5 dollars per-tooth, I believe.

I gave $5 for the first tooth....and then around $2 or $3 for the rest

tooth: $1
Regulatory Surcharge: $0.25
Dental Subsidy: $0.50
Vacant mouth space
surcharge: $0.75
Tooth fairy
Retirement fund: $1.00

total due: $3.50 :teeth:

Wow....our tooth fairy is CHEAP!

Its a quarter around here, usually one with a state on it that means something to us.

A traumatic tooth loss also gets a GC for a Baskin Robbins ice cream cone.

My DD just lost her first tooth. She got $5.00. We did explain thet the toothfairy always leaves more for the first tooth and then $2.00 for each tooth after that.

LOL when I was a kid our tooth fairy left us a quarter and a pack of carefree sugarless gum. We didn't get too excited when we lost a tooth :)

DD is only 3.5 so we don't have to worry about this one yet, but I am always on the lookout for a cute toothfairy pillow!

Ok, maybe we are crazy, but we gave $20 for my son's first tooth he lost (a couple months ago) - but there was a reason: the tooth was loose for 2 months, he ended up losing it at school and it fell on the ground outside. The poor kid looked so hard for that tooth along with his other classmates and teacher and couldn't find it. He was so upset. So he got a $20 bill and a note from the toothfairy thanking him for trying so hard to find it for her.
His second tooth that fell out about a month later he got $10
All the other teeth he loses, he will probably get $5.
The funny thing is, when my son went into school and said he got $20 ,the other kids thought he was lying!!

Check your local disney store...we were there and my son loves Winnie the Pooh and we happen to find with all the beenie plush animals a winnie the pooh with wings holding a toothbrush and tooth. The tooth (the ones your kid loses) goes into the plush tooth for the tooth fairy. SUPER CUTE!!!

I got a cute strawberry shortcake (her obsession!) tooth fairy pillow for my daughter at a craft fair (there are some people that make them and put them on ebay for sale) It's maybe 6"-8" squared in whatever character print you want with a little pocket on one side to put the tooth/money in for/from the tooth fairy.

Pillows/tooth holders all set, just waiting for that tooth to come out on its own... just to let you all know - we're leaning towards $2.00 bills - something a little different and when they start to question the existence of the tooth fairy we can tell them "only the tooth fairy has $2 bills - have you even seen a $2.00 anywhere..." or some story like that. We didn't want to give something that they see everyday and were thinking along the lines of gold $1.00 coins, silver dollars, etc. but I felt I got $1.00 so it has to be a little more $$$ than we got and I felt 1 piece per tooth so I didn't want to stick a handful of bills under the pillow so a $2.00 was a neat idea my sister came up with and our bank said they can get them for us.

My mom gives us a quarter for regular teeth and 50 cents for molars...

It has been years since we dealt with "tooth fairy equity" issues.

One thing we did, which DD just loved getting, was to give foreign money. She thought it was really cool, we didn't really care how much it was, because for us, it was "leftovers" of minimal value from former trips.

The bonus for us was, say 10 pesos sounds like a whole lot of something on the playground as the kiddos compare notes, but it is really about 90 cents.

One dollar in coins, to fit in the little toothfairy doll's backpack.

We decided to keep it low, since we have 3 kids worth of teeth to pay for.

Wait until paying for orthodontic work for all their teeth. :teeth:

Wow, a lot of people on this thread must have great jobs! My kids (DS10, DD7) each got $5 for their first and get $1 for each of the rest. (And I think it is too much!) I only ever got 50 cents for my teeth :teeth:

Since kids have no idea really how much the tooth fairy leaves, make it whatever you want! JMO. :goodvibes

Ok, I guess we're on the low end. lol My son lost his first tooth in Feb. and the tooth fairy gave him $2.50 in quarters. He just lost tooth #2 last week and got $2.00 for that, also in quarters. So it'll be $2 per tooth from now on.

Funny thing, he's always interested in and wants our change so that's why we did it in quarters instead of bills. But after getting his quarters last week, he told us he hopes next time the tooth fairy brings bills. lol :thumbsup2

Oh yeah... Last weeks tooth was very loose and ready to fall out, but it was his little brother who accidentally kicked it out of his mouth for him! lol 6 yr old said, "Maybe the tooth fairy will bring you something for helping me lose my tooth." So 4 yr old got a quarter under his pillow-he was thrilled. :teeth:
