What's the drive from Mesa AZ to Anaheim like?

Well darn... I will have my lime green mickey head on my lanyard and backpack, so maybe we will see each other in the parks! Either way, I hope you have a great trip and a safe drive!

I will have mine on my bag too...:goodvibes I just noticed it's a b-day trip for you! Have a great time and Happy Birthday!

I have a question for the Arizonians here...

DH is going to be driving to AZ at the end of the month. Someone mentioned to me that there may be snow for part of his drive. ?!!?!? Can anyone shed light on this? The last thing we think of when making sure the car is ready for a trip from CA to AZ is snow. Is this true? We don't have chains or snow tires. I would hate for him to get almost there and have to turn around.

Any input would be great!

Thanks,
Dreams

Not sure where in AZ he is going, but if he is heading out the 10 to Phoenix, there should not be any snow! If he is going up to Flagstaff or something, then there could be snow up there.

Hmmm, Mesa, I think?

There definitely shouldn't be any snow in Mesa, I can tell you that! :goodvibes Will he be taking the 8 freeway by chance? I seem to remember driving the 8 back to AZ once and there was snow through there, but I couldn't even tell you what month that was, it was so long ago.

I don't know anything about Yuma either. Sorry.

However, I'm in Chandler as well (but I still have 58 days til our trip...:sad1:) and I can tell you that when I travel with the kid(s) (17-19 year olds) my drive takes just a tad longer. Either way, we leave at 6 am and we're always there by lunch time so no need to stop for food. Besides, there are so many snacks in the car that if they're hungry, it's their own fault. haha We beat the traffic in Phoenix and in CA by leaving at that time. Thus far we've always stopped in... hmmm..can't remember, but there's an AM/PM there. These days my car is not so fond of AM/PM gas so we'll stop elsewhere. lol I think there was a Valero in Indio actually. Stittch (my car) likes Valero. haha

My last trip was no kids and it only took about 5.5 hours since my travel companion slept almost the whole way and I didn't have to stop except to get gas.

LOL I posted Mesa and then realized I was wrong. It's Yuma.

Thanks for replying. If anyone knows anything about Yuma and snow??

Thanks!

Well, as posted, I suppose the I-8 might have snow if that's how he's getting there? The I-8 from San Diego to Arizona has had snow issues before for sure.

If you go to Google maps it looks like you can drag for an alternate (longer) route taking the I-10 part of the way and then getting off on a smaller road? I don't know anything about that but I would think that's what he'd probably need to do if there was snow?

On the up (?) side, I believe Yuma is even hotter than Phoenix. I doubt he'll see any snow in Yuma proper...Google says that Yuma's first ever recorded TRACE of snow was January 1949, so I don't think it's likely that he will see any there. :)

I'll report back and let everyone know how the drive went. Last month, I told dh it was only a 5 hour drive. I guess I'll have to let him know it's a bit further. We were going to just fly there, but we thought driving would be quicker.

:)

Since you're leaving in January, you can still argue that it's a 5 hour drive, as you will gain an hour going into California. :) Of course, you'll lose it coming back, but hopefully he'll be too tired from a great vacation to care. :)

The time difference was fun but since we left at 8:30 or 9, we were ravenous by the time we hit Blythe, which was why we ended up stopping there and going to Jack in the Box (where we could definitely get breakfast no matter what time it was). To me, Blythe FEELS like the halfway point from Phoenix, which is why we tend to stop there, even though as I and others mentioned, it's not a particularly nice place to stop. :)

I think I'm confused...is he driving from Yuma, or was that the OP??
Yuma CAN have snow...but not much. It's not high enough elevation....if he goes into the mountains, SURE...but I don't think our mountains are near I-10?? No snow tires necessary unless he goes high.

To OP (i think!!) - 5 hrs is TOTALLY doable because Yuma is so far west, you definately make up that hr or so.
