Save me from having to go over all the small print, is the Avis Wizard number enough to bypass the line and go directly to your rental car or do you have to be a Preferred member to do that?

I think it's the same. I have a wizard card for Avis for business trips and always go straight out to the garage booth.

The Avis Wizard number, and Avis Preferred are different. Avis Preferred uses the Wizard number, but also has your preferences on file (i.e. car preference, optional insurance coverage, address, drivers license #, corporate discount, etc.). I don't believe there is any additional charge for Avis Preferred. Although not guaranteed with Preferred, at MCO I often have had my choice of cars, as well as a free upgrade.

My preferences are on file, so I guess I actually have preferred. I've used Avis at MCO 3 times, only the last time was I upgraded (got a Taurus for intermediate price, I originally was assigned an Excursion, but I didn't want an SUV).

USAir is having a bonus for Avis rentals right now, free upgrade plus 1,000 miles.

If you are a preferred member, it will state that on your card.

The difference is explained on the website. I ask you to read it to save me time by not having to type it. :) With the regular avis wizard, you have to go to the counter.

The Wizard keeps track of your preferences as well. The preferred has just a few more "bells and whistles".
