What's the difference between Remember and Magical fireworks shows?

On the disney calendar, they have a fireworks show on May 28th called "Magical - Disney's Nighttime Fireworks Spectacular." It appears this is the show that will play during the summer nightastic.

I've only seen the Remember...Dreams Come True Fireworks. How do the two differ?

Is it important to view Magical from a certain area (like Remember is better in front of the castle)?

We were planning to watch Fantasmic that night, which we've seen before, but if Magical is totally different and we should view it from a better spot, we might skip F! since that's our only opportunity to see Magical before we leave.

Remember Dreams Come True was developed for the DL 50th anniversary in 2005. It was shown mostly year round until 2009 when Magical was offered. RDCT is shown when other special fireworks are not shown.

Magical is summer
HalloWishes is Halloween
Holiday fireworks show mid-Nov to early Jan
RDCT all other times now.

RDCT is the best Disney fireworks show you will ever see. It is incredible and also includes lasers and other special effects.

I have yet to see Magical (plan to this July) but by all accounts RDCT is much better.

The only difference between Magical and RDCT is that Magical has Dumbo and RDCT use way more fireworks, pyrotechnics and special effects. On windy days, they don't use Dumbo during those nights. I've seen Magical from the hub and could see Dumbo no problem. I have also seen Magical from F! viewing area after the 1st show and I barely could see Dumbo from the ROA viewing area.

I have seen the debut of Magical last summer and it was okay, but it is not better than RDCT.

Yep exactly. Its the same music too. But the commentary at the beginning of the shows are different. RDCT said "50 years ago, there was a magic kingdom made of hope and child hood fanasies....." Magical does have an intro but not those words in particular as its no longer the 50th anniversary.

While RDCT is the best, Magical is still a great fireworks show (though it is shorter). Tink and Dumbo both fly and I will admit, I cry when little Dumbo flies. It is possible to see Dumbo and Tink from the Fantasmic viewing area (when we do the dessert seating, we do the early one so we can stay put and see the fireworks.) I am a huge Sleeping Beauty fan and there is a cute sequence in there that relates to her.

LOL I think that's like saying the only difference between Pirates of the Caribbean and it's a small world is a few drops, a couple of pirates, and different music.

They are very different fireworks shows.

Magical is shorter than RDCT. It features Tinkerbell flying like RDCT, but also has Dumbo. There is something truly special about the moment when Dumbo flies. However, while wind can keep Tink grounded, this is even moreso with Dumbo as he is more wind sensitive. So - you could see Tink, but not Dumbo.

As for viewing area, if you want to see (and enjoy) Dumbo, you need to be on Main Street. From the ROA you will see something that sort of could be Dumbo fly by, but from Main Street it's, arguably, the best part of the entire show.

...Its the same music too...
The music is NOT the same. At all. It's not even similar.

HTH,
Dreams (who gives RDCT 5 stars and Magical 3 stars - they are NOT the same show)

Magical and RDCT have the same music?? I didn't think so when I saw them both last year. Just saw RDCT Friday and it still is the best. Did they tone it down a little? I'm thinking specifically of the train part where the big white chugachuga rockets came from what looked like the ground up around the crowd?

Okay, thanks. :goodvibes My son would really get a kick out of seeing Dumbo, so maybe we could trot over there quickly after F! is done. We'll be in the wheelchair area on that side anyway, so it might be doable if we're ready as soon as F! ends.

You won't be going anywhere quickly after Fanstasmic.:rolleyes1

And good luck getting anywhere near Main St in a wheelchair at that time of night! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...but it probably won't work out like you hope. A few years ago my sister and I tried to do this (she's in a wheelchair too) and we left a minute before end of Fantasmic from the wheelchair viewing area and tried to get to Main St. but NO ONE would move. Really...NO ONE moved once we exited Frontierland. We were literally stuck in a mass of people and I had to sit on my sister's lap to keep from being shoved into a big smelly guy.:scared:

So trust me...it's not worth it. Pick one.

Magical was a BIG letdown from RDCT. I agree with Hydroguy in that RDCT is the best fireworks show I've ever seen by Disney. There have been some rumors floating around that Magical will be spruced up. Let's hope so. In my opinion Magical is just so-so. I kept waiting for something big and it never came.

Hmmm, I wonder if we can go through the mexican place & tunnel? We won't have a wheelchair, but a stroller (we'll have a GAC for my son), but we can ditch it and come back for it since we'll have to hold DS through the fireworks for him to see anything anyway. It would be def. easier to weave through people with the three of us than manuevering a wheelchair or stroller. I guess I'll ponder that during the week, thanks!

It's def easier to do without a wheelchair or stroller. However, it's still a difficult feat. All those folks with their eyes on the sky...they have no clue someone is beside them trying to get through.:rolleyes1

Unless things have changed, this area will be one way only going the opposite direction. The only way to leave the river area after F! is through Adventureland.

Yes, that part was eliminated (maybe a year ago? :confused3), but the rest of the show is pretty much the same.

I wasn't impressed with Magical, though some of the problem was surely HOW I saw it (see below).

There are rumors that they may change the show somewhat for this summer, but I haven't heard anything more concrete than that.

But keep in mind that if there are even moderate winds, Dumbo probably will not fly. (I think with those ears, a stiff wind might help him fly off the cable! ;) OK, I'm sure that can't happen, but it would be dangerous.) So if you JUST want to see Dumbo, you may be disappointed.

For myself, on our trip last summer (mid-to-late June), we tried to see the show three times.

First time, we waited probably 60-90 minutes to see the show. Neither Tink nor Dumbo flew, and it got canceled right around the time Dumbo normally shows up.

Second time, I'm pretty sure neither Tink nor Dumbo flew (I suppose Tink just MIGHT have, though--definitely not Dumbo), but the show went on fine otherwise.

Third time, we finally saw Dumbo (from a distance since we'd just come from the Electrical Parade).

I'd just hate to see you go to a ton of trouble to view the fireworks from a great location, only to find Dumbo didn't even fly.

Watching the fireworks from the Fantasmic! area, I believe you'll hear the music (the Sleeping Beauty section, which I think I like best besides Tinkerbell, you really don't need to be by the castle at all). Or if there's a second Fantasmic! showing, you could go see it AFTER fireworks (crowded but usually do-able).

Barring a late night, though, I think you just have to pick one or the other. :( I kind of vote for Fantasmic! because you'll still see a decent fireworks show (without Dumbo/Tink) and if the fireworks are canceled (or if Dumbo gets stage fright :) ) then you're not out an hour of waiting. But since you've seen Fantasmic!, you could certainly make a case for doing fireworks instead.

Have a great trip!

I am starting to wonder if we are talking about the same show. I remember seeing the fireworks last year with Dumbo flying around. I found it similar to RDCT with slight different commentary, and it was a bit shorter. They took out a few segments from the RDCT fireworks which shortened the show. Now that I think back ya I guess the music is a bit different isnt it?

Magical is a completely different show from RDCT.

Now, there are 2 versions of RDCT The original and then the shortened version where about 6 minutes out. Dumbo is not in either. Tink is in both (provided there is no wind).

Magical is completely different music, theme, pyrotechnics, has both Tink and Dumbo (if there is no wind).

I am certain you can find videos of both on youtube if you want to see which one looks / sounds familiar. :goodvibes

Thank you!!! I must have been mixing them up. Thanks for clarifying. I will You Tube them for sure. I just remember seeing the shorter version of RDCT and seeing Dumbo. Maybe they were testing him out. I dunno. I guess they do have a new fireworks show. This also excites me. I get to see a new show in a few weeks. :thumbsup2

LOL, but that was only a little sample of what I was saying about both shows.

The thing I like about RDCT is that it use part of the soundtracks from Wishes Nighttime Spectacular at WDW at the beginning and the end, but instead of Jiminy Cricket voice they use Julie Andrews voice. They might not have Dumbo, but I do like the different attractions scenes to match with the fireworks. I like the part when they use the Enchanted Tiki Room and Indy scene when they shoot out the fire from the sides of the castle.

Magical is about two minutes shorter than RDCT, uses less fireworks, less pyrotechnics, they use many different classic Disney movies music than RDCT. But they have not done so much to make it better than RDCT. The only favorite part of Magical for me is close to the end when the good fairies (Merryweather and Flora) from Sleeping Beauty had a pink and blue battle. The music and the fireworks match with the color of the castle.

I have video tape both shows during those years I went to DLR. I also like Believe... In Holiday Magic and Halloween Screams.

Basically, Remember Dreams Come True celebrates the attractions at Disneyland and Magical celebrates Disney's featured animated movies - maybe the classics?

Here's my daughter, Kelly's breakdown of the Magical fireworks with links to the video she took. She taped the entire fireworks, but had to break the video into two parts on You Tube
