What's the Difference Between a Deluxe and a Value Resort?

Have you ever stayed in an unbelievable resort that was breath taking in every way. They kind of place that you still tell your friends about years later?
Have you ever stayed at motel 6?
That's the difference.......

I've experienced value, moderate, off-site and deluxe. My resort choices depended on what kind of $$, I saved or how much time went into the plan.
My trip in 2000 to the POLY was awesome ( but my parents chipped in for us to go), next year to ASMusic ( after 9/11, 6 weeks before planning and arriving)- now that was BIG difference. My kids could have cared less. They were at Disney and there was a pool. After a visit to Boma , I knew I had to stay at AKL and between kids getting older and saving up $$ it was a 4 year gap, but SO worth it. Luckily I got to go back the following year.

Until there are grandkids, my vacations will be adult only so it's Moderate or Deluxe from now on.

We like being IN the resort instead of ON the resort when we're at AKL. By that I mean that everything is inside and you never have to leave the comfort of the indoors to go get food or do almost anything else within the resort.

While AoA has the rooms enclosed within a building, you still need to go outside to get to the gift shop, cafeteria or lobby.

disney offers services based on room price...but the differences aren't that great...alot of it is "feel"

do the deluxes "feel" nicer...yes they most certainly do.
is it worth the price difference? probably not when it comes down to it.

here's the short list of differences:

values:

more overt theming
only quick serve
one bar - the pool bar
bus transportation only
slightly smaller room size
no additional specialty services
pizza delivery only in the evening
no hot tubs/ pool slides
spread out designs
no marinas/ additonal recreation options

moderates:

more intensive theming
more themed main pool - one hot tub and a pool slide
quickserve and one sit down location - though meals periods are limited at some - usually at least two bars
slightly larger rooms
pizza delivery
spread out designs...but more themed than the "big statue" approach at values
some water transportation/ marina/ recreation options
bell services

deluxes (and vacation club by and large):

at least two full service restaurants - multiple lounges...some special spots like the tea room at the grand
room service
some more advance guest services (but not much)
multiple merchandise locations
more elaborate pools and hot tub offerings
valet
multiple transportation and some walking access to parks (or monorails and boats...except akl where its not possible)
characters breakfasts (some locations)
marinas/ recreation centers
multiple theme pools (some spots)
convention centers/ business services

those lists seem like a lot...but in reality it doesn't amount to too much. the pools and restaurants can be a big difference...as are the locations of some.

but all have basically the same staff skill (which is generally not very skilled), same housekeeping/ services, same maintenance/ cleanliness standards.

also remember that all disney resorts are 50-100+ dollars a night overpriced based on services.

also the deluxe have balconies in most rooms. Inside halls. Nicer bathrooms, and room furnishings.

Motel 6 in Disney are all of the All Stars. I will admit that the Pop Century is a step up, mostly because it is a newer value resort. Also, I'm excited about staying in the AoA as it is the only resort on property we haven't stayed on.

What Motel 6 do you speak of? In Disney?

To be fair, I think the Motel 6 comparison has a bit of problem because people tend to think 'ill-maintained' when they think Motel 6 or Super 8 [which isn't necessarily fair to those companies, either], when the goal is more about the room construction and layout.

But as others note, the service should be consistent across the properties. The difference is going to be in services available and theming. And both tend to be more relevant to the specific resort.

Rooms in a motel 6 are larger, I have stayed in motel 6's around the country and have never thought of them as (ill maintained). If that was the general consensus of them, they would have closed down years ago. What I'm trying to get at is they are a no frills way to stay on property. Other than theming and nice pools, there is virtually no difference between the two types of hotels.
