What's the deal-

But don't forget about all the discounts they come out with!!
I just got an e-mail from Disney Chase Rewards that says I can go to disney for 5 nights 6 days (hotel and tickets included) for $362/person! Travel dates 9-30-12-23 That's a steal!!!
Yes, the prices are "somewhat outragous" to begin with, but when they come out with these deals every now and then, I would spend more than $362 in one night in Atlantic City! :rolleyes1
Heck, we're going to Disney next month and we saved over $1000 because of the 40% off code. We finaly get to stay at AKL savannah view because we got such a deep discount.

Let me add another 2 cents :)
Disney IMO is a perfectly priced and I'll tell you why.
So the price of a single day ticket is going up to $70 something. Say you go to ANimal Kingdom with your $70 ticket. You see Finding Nemo the Musical. You also spend another 7 hours in the park going on unique rides and seeing attractions.
Now put in into this perspective.
I just saw Mary Poppins on Broadway. The price of my ticket was $110. All I saw was the show. It was about 2 1/2 hours. I got 2 1/2 hours of entertainment for $110.
My point? Finding Nemo is broadway quality and not only are you getting to see a musical you also are going to enjoy the whole day in DISNEY!!!

Good point! :thumbsup2

Ok, sure you do but what makes you think that we all want to hear the whining? :rolleyes1 I know, go ahead slam away. :woohoo:

But first, I'm with you guys who want to give up your trips to WDW- less crowded for me :cheer2: ok, now slam away.

What makes you think you have to read the posts and/or create new ones specifically complaining about people who complain at the prices. :confused3

Please keep in mind that not everyone receives "said" discounts. Myself, along with millions others, are still waiting for our first discount email or postcard.

I agree I have been going to Disney since 1971 and I have yet to receive a discount email or postcard.

On the other hand we (DH and I) took our DD, SIL and our grandson (age 3 at the time) in 2005. DH and I paid for both rooms.
DD told me a few days ago that she just received a postcard discount for Disney that was good for September - December with a few black out dates.

It really makes wonder just how the recipients of discount emails and /or postcards are selected.:confused3 :confused3

BTW

She will not be taking advantage of the discount since our grandson is starting kindergarten this fall.

Well, it must be nice to be a part of the elite group of people who can easily handle the rising costs of Disney vacations. However, there are many of us who have to work extremely hard and make big, big sacrifices to afford a Disney trip. Couple the rising price of Disney with the rise in gas, airline tickets, groceries, and utilities and we are priced right out of the magic.

Then to see people laughing :rotfl: and calling that kind of struggle "belly aching" is very disheartening. :sad2:

It has nothing to do with elitism. Vacations are expensive and it is necessary to decide how you want to spend your vacation dollars. Once you decide how much you can spend then you determine where and how you want to spend it. I raised three children alone for many years and I could not afford anything but day trips. That's what we did. When I could afford As I was able to take them on longer trip I did, but I always decided where I needed to compromise in order to give them an extended vacation. I could never have taken them to Disney, and they were fortunate that my DFi now DH saved and took us. We went once with them and then I took them to places in the area in order to save on airline fees. I was not angry at Disney and their prices, I just decided to spend my dollars closer to home in order to get the best bang for my buck. I shared beach cottages with my sister and took trips to a dude ranch. Still not cheap but in my price point, and still a nice time for the kids.

I think that folks are not laughing at those who are saving to afford a dream trip but responding to the feeling that rising costs should not affect rising resort hotel prices. It is happening everywhere.

I just priced Rydin Hy in New York for next year and I almost choked. Way more than a trip to Disney in a Moderate with hoppers and the DDP as it stands now. But until next March they are fully booked for almost every weekend and for most of the days in between. They are generally booked one year in advance. My DD and my DS both have told me that for their family the price was not acceptable and that they need to look elsewhere for their vacation. Both are disappointed because they spent several vacations there and wanted to share the experience with their family.

I have started pricing beach cottages and since it has been years since I paid for a week or two I see that those prices have increase substantially as well, and in a cottage I am the maid service :confused3. We'll see what price I can find and then determine if I need a plan C

Exactly! :thumbsup2 We vacation at Disney 2x a year and save extensively for both of those trips and do so because it is a priority for us. We have family that lives there and as such wind up visiting at the most expensive times of the year: Easter and Christmas. I'm a single parent to one child and while I'm fortunate to have the kind of job that allows us to visit that frequently, it isn't without sacrifice and planning. While a lot of my co-workers have expensive cars and designer clothes (and those things are fine :) , I still drive my 9 year old Ford SUV and shop at WalMart and Target so I have money to vacation at Disney.

The trip I'm taking next week has been in the planning and savings stages for over 16 months. My sister and I plotted out how much we could afford for the kids while making it a magical experience for them. We could have stayed at POP and had a wonderful time but it was important to us for the kids to experience something we didn't as children: staying at the Polynesian.

I am certainly not rich but when something is a priority for you, you do what you need to in order to accomplish it. If this line of thinking makes me 'elitist' then so be it. I think of it as practical. :lmao:

The only certainties in life are death, taxes and rising costs at Disney. :thumbsup2

I sure wish Disney would let those who cant use their postcard pins, transfer them to friends or family. :goodvibes

But Im pretty sure that Disney counts on the fact that a majority of the codes they send out will go unused.
