What's the deal-

No, although that would be kind of funny!:lmao: We had to wear brightly colored wrist bands that clearly indicated when our time was over.
That sounds like the waterparks down the shore here. You get a different band every half hour so they know when your 2 or 3 hour period is up.

Did you feel like you got your 23.50 worth? :lmao:

UMMM, No!;) Maybe they realize that 7 hours is about all a person can take!:rotfl:

One of the first rides we went on was a dark ride. Well, the first "room" you go into was their electrical room--literally! There were several electrical boxes with wires poking out and what looked like an air conditioning unit. No attempt to disguise them. In Peter Pan you fly over the backyard, Snow White is sitting by the well in the first scene, this one was the mainenance room.:lmao:

Their log flume was a concrete ditch that made one loop and then up the hill for the drop. The whole thing lasted maybe 90 sec. We did, however, have a lovely view of the port-o-pottys as we went by.

Honestly, if I couldn't see the comedy in this, I would be irritated at spending the money.

"1997---7 day length of stay tickets good only for 1 theme park per day but they included the water parks and Pleasure Island.
adult park pass $255
2007---7 day with water park and more adult park pass $269"

This price comparison is not accurate. The 1997 tickets included no expiration and hopping feature. The cost of a 7 day ticket with all of those features today cost $378.24. Quite a bit of a difference.

Sorry I guess they may have been park hoppers.

But the lenght of stay pass did expire....

From this website:

Well, it must be nice to be a part of the elite group of people who can easily handle the rising costs of Disney vacations. However, there are many of us who have to work extremely hard and make big, big sacrifices to afford a Disney trip. Couple the rising price of Disney with the rise in gas, airline tickets, groceries, and utilities and we are priced right out of the magic.

Then to see people laughing :rotfl: and calling that kind of struggle "belly aching" is very disheartening. :sad2:

well, I guess it IS nice to be part of the 'elite' group :snooty: We don't have to work hard for our money- I have a money tree in our backyard, don't you have one?! I guess only you have to make sacrifices for your vacations-
What the heck kinda comment is that? I don't understand you complaining about Disney's prices when everything is going UP! If you can't afford the resort rooms, along with rising airline tickets, food and so on- then don't vacation at Disney. What do you want me to say?

We do vacation at Disney two times a year- and every year we have to spend more and more to take trips. We cut out days- cook dinners in at the cabin... {but I love to cook at the cabin- I rarely cook dinners at home soooo it's a nice change to cook dinners} the cost of life is rising- so you better get a grip or you're going to drown.

You mentioned the rising price of gas, airline tickets, groceries and utilities- but belly ache about Disney prices going up. Thank you for making my point! I guess Disney should be the only ones NOT going up on their prices- talk about living in Never never land.

I guess we just rather target Disney and complain to what? Make yourself feel better? :headache: Disney is still a deal- just go vacation at the beach and then you'll see. ;)

I agree 100%, this whole crying over price increase is ridiculous. I posted the same thing as you but on another crazy thread, the cost of everything in life goes up. For some reason though people feel Disney should be the exception, as though they don't feel the rise in health insurance, gas for transportation and the like, not to mention the many shareholders they need to keep happy. Nothing has increased more dramatically and more rapidly than the cost of buying a home, look at the exorbitant price difference between now and 10 years ago, crazy. Someone said they needed to vent, over what? You vent about bad service, bad food, how it rained your whole week, but price increase is a fact of life. I've worked for many years in the resort business, hotels charge more for holidays and weekends and other seasons, it's business. As for the increase in price and decrease in service, feel free to read my review from Nov. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1291148
Jeez, get out into the real world already.

Thank you :thumbsup2

Sorry, but we as consumers have every right to love it, hate it, accept it or cry for hours when disney raises prices. Who are we to judge what is important or troublesome to others! I say complain if you feel the urge. It won't do any good but we all have a voice. Personally, I hate that the prices have gone up. I keep paying them...but thats my choice. Its my party and I'll cry if I want to!:confused3

Ok, sure you do but what makes you think that we all want to hear the whining? :rolleyes1 I know, go ahead slam away. :woohoo:

But first, I'm with you guys who want to give up your trips to WDW- less crowded for me :cheer2: ok, now slam away.

This was posted on the New resort prices veering me away from Disney thread:

I have a strong feeling that Disney resorts will go down in price if capacity doesn't reach levels they want during whatever season. You will probably be able to snatch some deals if you plan closer in to your dates of vacation. I don't like planning within a 90 day window or less, but I think that's what you will have to do for a better deal. I think another price break time will be 45 days out. This is pure speculation on my part, but I think Disney will adjust price levels to increase capacity if they need to do it closer in. If you're savy about it, you may be able to book early anyway and watch rates on internet and get a better deal on price by calling back Disney for the new, cheaper pricing when and if it becomes available. I did this stradegy recently for the Venetian Resort and Casino in Vegas and it saved me $300 across 4 days time. Religiously, I followed the rates for 45 days and I hit better rates twice. The resort changed the pricing for me twice. I can't say for sure if Disney will have the same pricing policy, but you may have to make it a game of sorts to save some on the resorts there. Also, there will probably be more price breaks for the deluxe resorts with this type of pricing policy. Most resorts hope you will not follow internet to see better deals if they become available. This has helped me with many resorts to get a lower price through the years. It's one of the reasons I've stopped using travel agents. Most of them won't check for you on a regular basis.

I think you need to plan longer days at the parks whether you stay on-site or not to get better value of your Disney park ticket. If you already do the maximum time then this stradegy will not help much. Park Hoppers can help on AK days; so, you can go to another later park on the same day. I strongly suggest going at opening time and staying until the park closes. If you are on-site use your early and late priveleges to have even longer days at the parks. Use restaurants to rest or let your toddlers take a nap with air-conditioning and shade in them; so, you can last for the longer days. I don't think Disney cast members will throw you out, if you take a longer time at the restaurants or quick service places. Use areas like Innoventions to rest and eat or the Land Pavillon where seating seems to be very easy to get around the food stands, etc. By having longer days at the parks you may be able to save a day of vacation because you are accomplishing so much more each day and that will save money.

Also, I would think about bringing food and drink in the parks to save money on that end. Yes, it's harder that way, but you do save money. Small flexible coolers will fit in the lockers at the parks, too. Of course, you have to bring in acceptable items to Disney parks. You can use a cooler in the car and eat in the parking lot if that's your mode of transportation. Eat breakfast in your Disney resort room before your park day starts. Wait until late to eat in your Disney resort after park hours. It won't kill anybody to have peanut butter (assuming you are not allergic) sandwiches in their room, etc. to save some money. I don't like having to cut back on the food budget, but if it's a way to go to Disney or NOT then I'll do it. Also, there are coupons and the Entertainment Orlando coupon book to consider for saving money on eats and other possibilties including resorts, if you are willing to leave Disney proper.

Planning your day at the parks better will help you get more value out of your park tickets, too. As an example, we never back track at the parks. We plan show or movie times very carefully to be in the right place at the right time. It takes too much time to back track and it's tiring to do it. Think about skipping the ride with a 60 minute wait to go on three other rides with 20 minute waits. You get the idea. Use fastpass as much as you can. Plan your day! If you use these techniques well you can probably shave another day off your Disney trip.

It's a hassle, but think about staying at another resort on your short stay days when you come in or leave or both times. I know for those without a car this is a hassle, but there are taxi services everywhere Disney. Even with taxi fare to consider it may be cheaper to go elsewhere for those short days coming in or out of Disney. Try staying at other, non-Disney resorts that will save you money. I know it's more convenient and more magical to stay on-site, but I feel the parks are the main stay of Disney; so, you can save money and still see the parks by staying off-site.

We've taken over 25 trips over the last 30 years to Disney and we don't live close by and all the stradegies listed above work. When there was a good deal to stay at a Disney Deluxe we did it; we've done concierge, too. When there wasn't a good deal we didn't do it. If we had to stay at a Disney value resort to economize we did it. You make choices.

Now with all that said, I think I would start thinking about taking other, different vacations especially during the peak, more expensive times at Disney. As much as I like Disney there are other family choices like Williamsburg (very reasonable) or Hersey Park, etc. For those without kids, I would cruise it to Alaska or Hawaii instead. See the Natural Wonders, National Parks and Monuments or even state parks for those on a budget. The all inclusive Mexico trips are a big bargain if you want a warmer vacation. Expand your horizons and your horizons will expand your pocketbook.

I think others have already mentioned you can save money from 2007 rates for 2008 times if you are willing to go at less, popular times. I don't have a big issue with taking kids out of school for a week, as long as, you plan it well with homework assignments, etc. for the school time they are missing. Of course, this is based on the kids doing ok at school. I would never do it if my child was having trouble with school.

I'm sure others can share their money saving techniques, too.

Thanks for the money saving techniques.
I used many of these myself when my children were younger.

I do feel badly for the DIS families who are caught in the crunch and will now either have to be creative enough with their vacation money to be able to afford to come back to Disney or else they will need to choose to vacation elsewhere.

The above suggestions are good ones and if some of you follow a few of them I think you might be able to afford to go Disney--Maybe NOT as often or NOT as long a period of time or at your first choice of resort-- But if you really want to go Disney most of you with a little creativity and some budgeting will be able to find a way!:thumbsup2

Stop belly aching already! :rolleyes1

I completely agree with you, price increase is EVERY WHERE not just Disney, it stinks, but thats they way the chips fall. I hate the increases just as much as the next guy, but they have to raise the prices to pay for the bills, just like everyone else!!

Some good advice, if you can do it invest in some Disney company shares, that what we did and as a share holder you get some other extra little perks thrown your way, plus all the increase revenue goes right in your pocket too!!   Think about it its a great investment.

But you are yelling the loudest about your own opinion and being rude to boot. Your "slam away" comment is omission of that. Perhaps you should stop your belly-aching. What makes you think everybody else wants to hear your whining? It is a public forum. If you don't like it, don't read it. It is pretty simple really. ;)

take your own advise, it's a public forum- I can belly ache just like you. If you don't like it... don't read it. ;)

How do you know we don't "belly ache" about the rising cost of living? I certainly do. But this is a DISNEY forum, hence the talk about DISNEY prices. I take my belly aching about the rising cost of living elsewhere, as this is not the place for it.

And yes, complaining about it does make me feel better :goodvibes

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you.

IMO The Magical Express is a brilliant marketing ploy by Disney to keep you on property. Thus they can IMO get extra $$ from you, which is ok. As for buses, in the past, they have always slowed me down. I can get around the area much faster. If you shop for a rent a car and keep checking on the rates there are great deals. My next 10 day visit will be using a full size car with Entertainment coupon for an Alamo rental. The total 10 day coast taxes and all for $209 . For $21 a day its a great deal and in all my visits to WDW I have never had a rental car problem. Going to an outlet, Universal, Seaworld or church is easy for my family for this small amount $.
By the way don't you find gas prices strange ???? Here in South Jersey gas was $2.41 a gallon. Mmmmm maybe it has something to do with the stock market ? Housing market ? or our government ???
I believe the CM's should get more of the money JMO

:rotfl2: This has to be one of the funniest things I've read in a loooooong time!!! Everyone hates price increases, we all want more bang for our buck. I have to say though, that a $10 a night price increase at WDW is really not such a big deal is it? I really don't want to get into customer service either, as far as I'm concerned NOBODY should get animal towels! How petty is that? (I bring that up because people really seemed to get stressed out on that one) On an average vacation of 6 nights, that's only $60 bucks and chances are, if you can afford to vacation at WDW then you can afford the $60. If you don't like the price increases don't pay them, stay home.

BTW, I remember gas at $0.89, gal of milk $1.19, doz eggs $0.49, ten lbs. of potatoes for $0.69 ~ and that's only 15 yrs of marriage, not my childhood :thumbsup2

with all of the complaining about Disney's price increases? It must just be me and the mood I'm in, but come on- prices increase everywhere, it's not just disney ganging up on you. :rotfl:

We all know that the price will go up every year- just like at the gas pump, the grocery store, the clothes store, you name it.

Stop belly aching already! :rolleyes1

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

rates at lodgings in my little suburb...

super 8 -- 77
holiday inn -- 159
local golf resort (3 star quality) -- 299

Not far out of line with disney value/moderate/deluxe resorts prices. Nearest attraction to my neck of the woods is a strip mall with a walmart and a best buy. If you're on a high enough floor, facing the right direction in the holiday inn, I believe you can catch the blue "W" of the walmart just over the tree line.

Ok, sure you do but what makes you think that we all want to hear the whining? :rolleyes1 I know, go ahead slam away. :woohoo:

HA! I guess my point was that we should not worry if others don't want to listen to our whining cause we all are free to whine and you all are free to ignore us!:rotfl2: Seriously, I mutter under my breath when I book trips to WDW but it hasn't stopped me! I'm headed back in Sept and Dec. :thumbsup2
My love affair with disney is stronger than my love affair with my money, obviously.:rolleyes1

But don't forget about all the discounts they come out with!!
I just got an e-mail from Disney Chase Rewards that says I can go to disney for 5 nights 6 days (hotel and tickets included) for $362/person! Travel dates 9-30-12-23 That's a steal!!!
Yes, the prices are "somewhat outragous" to begin with, but when they come out with these deals every now and then, I would spend more than $362 in one night in Atlantic City! :rolleyes1
Heck, we're going to Disney next month and we saved over $1000 because of the 40% off code. We finaly get to stay at AKL savannah view because we got such a deep discount.

Let me add another 2 cents :)
Disney IMO is a perfectly priced and I'll tell you why.
So the price of a single day ticket is going up to $70 something. Say you go to ANimal Kingdom with your $70 ticket. You see Finding Nemo the Musical. You also spend another 7 hours in the park going on unique rides and seeing attractions.
Now put in into this perspective.
I just saw Mary Poppins on Broadway. The price of my ticket was $110. All I saw was the show. It was about 2 1/2 hours. I got 2 1/2 hours of entertainment for $110.
My point? Finding Nemo is broadway quality and not only are you getting to see a musical you also are going to enjoy the whole day in DISNEY!!!
