What's the deal with the Mummy (the main Mummy Robot?)

Just got back. Rode the Mummy probably 7 or 8 times. The very first time we rode the main animatronic mummy that pops out of the coffin was working. Every other time he wasn't and it went to just a projected image of something talking on the coffin.

Anyone know what was up with that? Is it just so complicated of an animatron that it breaks down all the time? It was fantastic when it worked, probably the best robot I've ever seen on an attraction.

could have been a problem that day. I've been on The Mummy about 15-20 times and only seen him not come out twice.

The first Imhotep (mummy) is an EXTREMELY complicated animatronic. The ride designers did a spectacular job at animating it. Because of its complexity, it's prone to have technical difficulties, but any kind of ride and/or show element can have technical difficulties. Imhotep must've just been feeling ill. He must've eaten a bad soul.

The projection is a back-up. Better to have something than nothing!

I've ridden the Mummy many times and I would say that "Scary Mummy Dude" comes out 2/3 of the time.

I only rode The Mummy twice (once in Orlando and once in Hollywood) and the one in Orlando worked fine when I was on but the one in Hollywood was busted. It kinda cheapened it for a me a bit, being honest. It kinda spoils the effect when something on a ride is meant to work but doesn't. Fact of life though - mechanical stuff breaks down. C'est la vie...

For the record, and for anyone who's not experienced both, I can safely say I thought The Mummy in Orlando is much more exciting than the one in Hollywood

That's arguable. Being able to pop out of a coffin is fine and dandy, but I've never been the least bit impressed with the rest of his animation. It's like they spent so much time getting that first trick perfect that they just let him be a robotic spaz for the rest of his scene. He can't even move his hands.

Can't remember his exact motions but didn't seem like too many movements. Tomb door opens, he slides forward, raises one arm and lights up. Is that it or is there more? Can't remember if he turns or if his head moves at all.

I thought he was pretty impressive. Just wish he worked more on our trip. It was weird to see him work the first time on the first day and not at all for the remaining days and 7-8 times more we rode. But oh well.

I personally think he is one of the best animatrons at any park, love that ride. Even my girl, who did not like parks or rides at all until this trip loved the mummy. Even had her quoting him throughout the rest of the trip! I converted her!

That just validates my opinion IMO that that mummy is fantastic when its working, I think it moves great. Watching that video makes me wish I was there sooooooo much that is such a great ride. Can't wait to get back there.

When we were there last summer the Mummy was there for our first ride but not our second ride a week later. Something must have been down. The ride's still amazing without the mummy, but it's SO much better with him! It's definitely the most impressive animatronic I've ever seen. I hope it's working in a few days!

The thing that I've noticed doesn't work a lot is the blue laser-looking hand light. Also, inside the first room one of the figures doesn't always pop up...I've forgotten which one. And two weeks ago only half of the fire room ceiling was working on some of our rides.

Hah, yea I hate it when the projection is on him.

Get this. I've ridden once where he wasn't working, AND the one in the "fake unload" room wasn't working either.

The projection was there, the glass shattered, and he was there, but a black tarp was over him, and he wasn't moving. The audio and everything was there, as well as the fire, but it looked really cheesy.

In my opinion, I think if they're both not working, they shouldn't open.

I'm glad they have the backup to him because although he adds a lot to the ride, its still a great ride without him. He is needed though, maybe they will fine tune him and make him work more consistently.
