What's the deal with the funnel cakes?

Are Disney's funnel cakes *that* good? I see so many people talking about them.

funnel cakes are all over the place here (PA), so maybe it's just not that exciting to me? Or are Disney ones special?

Being from NJ, in relatively close proximity to Boardwalk's, I don't see the big deal either. :confused3 Maybe we're just used to them?

I would say that most places in the U.S. don't have funnel cake carts on every corner, so one at Disney may be special.

Bingo. I never see funnel cakes unless I'm at a fair or theme park. I still never really want one, but I came close to getting one last month. "Hmm, I think that sounds good..." as I walk by.

Here in Indiana, we only get them at the county and state fair, so I guess if you really like them and you can get one at Disney, then why not. I've never had one at Disney. They do look good, though.

Just beware of funnel cake-stealing seagulls at Epcot. I saw one swoop down on one in a guy's hands as he was walking past Japan.

Okay - I just wanted to see if they were different from the funnel cakes I am used to. I love funnel cake as much as the next person (maybe more! LOL) and I didn't want to miss out on something different.

Here in southeast PA there tend to be funnel cake stands at every fair, church festival, school carnival etc. My grandmother would make them in her kitchenfor us when we were kids. Yum!

Yep down here the only time we get them is at fairs or carnivals.

Just a matter of availability. It is hard to make any one funnel cake better than another; batter isn't exactly rocket science. Most of the world just only gets them maybe once a year at a local fair or some other festival that they may or may not attend. The ability to get them from multiple locations in WDW is a nice change.

Besides, who doesn't like funnel cake? It's deep fried batter covered in sugar or pie filling. Woo hoo! :)

They aren't unique or different than any others found elsewhere, it's just convienent to get one while wandering the parks.

The ones from Sleepy Hollow in MK are sooo good...and they're not a bad price, either!

I think I am in a minority. We had never seen or heard of funnel cake before (had seen it mentioned in message boards but didn't know what it was) going to WDW (don't have it in Australia) and I had no idea what it was, so when I saw it at WDW we went and ordered one with sugar on top. We then sat down and ate it and I have to say it was not nice at all, it was just fried batter :rotfl: don't quite know what we were expecting :rotfl: . Maybe we had the wrong topping or something, but we were not impressed at all.

So are they "that good", in my opinion NO. What's the deal with the funnel cakes? I have absolutely no idea :lmao: I was wondering that myself as I was munching away on mine.

I grew up 30 miles from Pennsylvania Dutch Country (in Reading but spent lots of weekend in Lancaster). Funnel cakes were a way of life. Now my son, who spent most of his growing up years in Nebraska, always wanted a funnel cake at Disney World. Personally, I can't even stand the smell of them anymore since that was all around when I was growing up.

But I do get a kick out of seeing the long funnel cake lines at Disney World. I often wonder how many non Americans are experiencing their first funnel cake. And what they think of them.

We LOVE funnel cake! And unfortunately some of the amusement parks in PA no longer fry theirs (what's the point if you don't fry them? :confused3 ). We love getting ours from Sleepy Hollow on each visit to Disney.

Either you like them or you don't. Try them and you'll know for sure. :thumbsup2

:scared1: J/K

We love funnel cake!

I'm PA Dutch (my entire family heritage is)

Therefore, I don't think I've ever touched a funnel cake in WDW. Maybe once? Really, it's just a funnel cake. Been there, done that...but ooooo! Popcorn?! popcorn:: Now that is what I get in Disney, granted I can make my own, but it never tastes the same :goodvibes

You are right about the goodness and the price! I had one here on our trip this month. It was great. I think it was in the $3 range. I was surprised when I got over to EPCOT to see the stand over there selling funnel cakes for $6!

I'm from eastern PA and if I'm at WDW I'm going to get something more different than a funnel cake for a snack.

Personally I do not even like funnel cakes all that much. I prefer elephant ears much more which are similar but thinner, flat, and lots of cinnamon sugar.

We just had one there a few days ago and I have to say they were ok but I have had better ones. They didn't have much flavor. I remember having a really yummy one at Knots Berry Farm once and this one wasn't as good. Could be just my taste that day though. It was better with strawberries on it though.:)
