What's the deal with Kohls??

I bought alot of baby clothes that were on sale. When I got home I realized some had rung up at the correct percentage but some had not. I went to the service desk to show and get an adjustment but they said everything rang up right, so I returned the ones I was overcharged on. For the return they rang up at the correct sale price. Luckily I had my receipt and was watching and had it corrected. I returned 10 items but the receipt only showed 8.
I bought 2 identical blouses, one in red and one in blue. They rang up over $20 different.
You really gotta watch everything.

I think Kohls goes through cycles where they really alienate customers and then they are better for a while and then go back to poor policies.

As far as I can tell from the two times it happened to me, they either deduct the Kohls cash from the return transaction that causes your original transaction to no longer qualify for Kohls cash, or they don't let you use the Kohls cash after you've returned something from the original transaction that would make it no longer qualify for Kohls cash. They should explain it better.

I agree that I will be very careful shopping at Kohl's in the future. I used a $10 off on Black Friday on a purchase of about $75 for 4 items. My dad ended up also purchasing one of the items that I had purchased for my mom, so I went to return the item the next week. They wanted to take off the entire $10, the extra 20% off, and my Kohl's cash that I received! I didn't mind about the Kohl's cash, but the item I was returning was $30 with an extra 20% off and they wanted to give me back $17. If you use $10 Kohl's cash or coupon, only use it on an item you are 100% sure you are going to keep and do it in a separate transaction!

If by making that return you went under the amount needed to earn Kohls Cash, then of course you would lose it. You are not entitled to it anymore. And if you purchased an item and received 20% off of that item, of course they would consider that in the return. How does that not make sense?

The $10 thing is a bit crazy, but you have found the way around it. Always use your $10 off coupon in a separate transaction.

I also want to comment on the not getting 30% off thing. From what I have been told they only send that percent off to their card holders. Otherwise the amount you receive is either 15% or 20% and totally random. Just like some people get WDW pin codes and some don't.

All I can say is that I used to recommend Kohls to everyone and they were my go-to store for everything, but I've become very disillusioned the past few months! And judging by things I'm reading online, I'm not alone.

I agree.

I HATE Kohl's!!!

I placed an order for my niece on BF & I added a few things to it in order to get the KC. I had only bought a few things from Kohl's in the past, and hardly return (even when I should), so I wasn't savvy to their horrible return policies.

Here is my story: I was sent my order (each item shipping separately) & about a week later, a duplicate order came to me. I thought nothing of it, just that it was a minor mistake so I returned the 2nd order to the store. I had earned & spent $15 in KC. I NEVER received a 2nd $15 KC (which if I had two $52 orders, I should have earned).

When I went to return the duplicate order, which was $52, I was told that I would only receive $21 back. I told the that I would receive my entire $52 or I would leave with the order. They said that I used both $15 that I earned & I tried to tell the guy that I had legitimately earned & spent $15 on the original order that's got & wanted to keep but that I did not want to keep the 2nd order & I expected a full refund, to no avail. He offered me merchandise credi, to which I refused. I called my credit card company & filed a dispute & told them the whole story. Bottom line: THEY SUCK!!!!!

After this happened, my friend told me her issues with them & it is similar to the ones posted. They won't stay in biz long with that type of policies

I don't even shop at Kohls, and I understand, If the require you sp end 50 dollars to get 10 free Kohls cash, You take something back you didn't spend 50 dollar, therefore you don't get the free cash.

Because they didn't have the same sweater in stock any more! When you are shopping online for things you can't try on, you are bound to have returns now and then.

Even so, you could have exchanged the online sweater for something else in the store that day. You did a return, not an exchange.

That's what I did! They didn't have the sweater so I got my son a pair of shoes that same day. I only got the merchandise credit to make it easier for everyone - the line was back to the end of the store. No one told me that would make me lose my Kohls cash.

If you didn't get cash back, you did in fact spend $50.00. A store credit ins't getting money back. If I purchase a sweater for $50.00 and I return it because it didn't fit, and I get a $50.00 store credit, I have still spent $50.00. I returned $50.00 worth of merchandise and I will pick out $50..00 worth of merchandise to replace that, how is that not spending $50.00.

Next time, do the return without a receipt. That is what our cashier told us to do. If you want the merchandise credit - do an exchange without a receipt and you will not lose your Kohls Kash.

I bought $50 worth of clothes online for my kids, and one sweater didn't fit my son so I took it back and got a merchandise credit so he could buy another one (he lives out of town). When I went to use my $10 Kohls cash, the clerk said it had been taken away since I returned the sweater! It was only $20 of the $50 that I had spent so I didn't understand this decision. If this is their new policy, they are going to lose business - the store still had my money - I didn't get cash returned - I got a merchandise credit so he could exchange it for something that fit. I understand that people were taking advantage and buying $1000 worth of stuff for the Kohls cash then returning everything but punishing everyone will not help their sales.

This is the way that they handle it at the Kohls I shop at also. It's taken away if you return an item that makes it less than the $50 total. I returned a $10 item, but my total was $170, so it did not affect my $30 Kohl's Cash. (I asked first, as I would have gotten nothing back, better to have kept the $10 item in that case).

I just have a problem with them calling it Kohl's Cash, and saying you can use it just like cash. No, you can't. It's a coupon, and used as a coupon ::yes::

I really don't like Kohls, and only shop there occasionally. I got a very good price on a Keurig coffee maker with a 30% additional off.

No, this is not true. I forgot my 30% off card at home a couple years ago, so decided to just go with a scratch off at the register. I happened to get a 30% off so went on with my transaction. (otherwise I was going to cancel it and wait til the next day and return with my 30% off)

They get very little of my business anyway, but I do not like them changing a policy that's been in place for years.

I found out about their new return policy when I tried to exchange a pair of sheets I had bought online. The color wasn't exactly liked it looked on the computer and I wanted to order a different set. I had earned Kohl's cash and asked for a merchandise credit because I had to re-order them online. They lady told me that I'd lose the Kohl's cash value amount. I said forget it and just kept the color I was unhappy with. I must add though I LOVED the sheets (besides the color). They were darker than they looked online and they show our lab's fur quite a lot.

My mom forgot hers last month (20 I think) and she was told no worries - just let them know at the register and they will honor it - which she told them and they did - no questions asked.
Also a few months ago I had a return and I was told that if I took store credit I could keep my Kohl's cash or I could take the credit to my card (I figured I would lose it) and just in the last month or 2 my mom was told the same.
I also had a co-worker take her 30% off and found she was 2 days before the stated dates but they still honored it and told her she didn't have to come back. All in all, I've been happy with our Kohl's here.

That's great, but they are not that lenient here, think most of the stores are going by different rules now. I would think the manager would have enough leeway in certain circumstances to bend rules. :)

What you could have done was ordered another set that was the same original price, and take both receipts back to the store. Somehow they can switch things around so that you only end up paying for one item and keeping your Kohls Cash. I think they have you return the non Kohls Cash item, give you your money back, and they exchange the item you still have for the one you want.

I had been trying out Kohl's because I occasionally got the $10 Kohl's cash mailers. I have not been terribly impressed. Items were way marked up so you would think you were getting a deal. For example the $29.95 Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Purse that is normally $19.95 at Target. Not to mention the customer service was marginal at best. The quality of the Kohl's brands were awful too. I'm not planning on going back unless I receive the $10 Kohl's cash for free. Even then I plan to only spend as close to $10 as possible.

I've always been happy with Kohls... you just have to know your products and prices before shopping and not be sucked into the 'deals'. For example, on Black Friday they had the ImagiNext BatCave on sale for $19.99. Everywhere else it was $29.99 or more. I combined that with a 15% off coupon and got a great deal.

For the Kohl's Cash, I keep my purchases using that separate from other items and buy things I know I will not return like socks, underwear and K-cups - making them truly free.

The KC is a coupon... if you bought a $20 sweater and used $15 in KC, you only spent $5 out of pocket. So that's all your entitled back if you return it.

The key to Kohl's is working it to your advantage by knowing your products and how to use their coupons to your benefit. It can really pay off in the end :thumbsup2

Next time, do the return without a receipt

Nope, that doesn't work either. My mother-in-law did that and only got $2.00 for a sweater she paid $20 for!

Someone told me I should have quick went and used my Kohls cash before I made the return but who knew? And I don't like having to play games to honestly having to exchange an item that doesn't fit.

And I heard that doesn't always work either. My friend used her Kohls cash right away not knowing the shirt she got her mother wouldn't fit, so when her mother returned it, Kohls took $10 off the price her daughter paid for the shirt! Now that's just not right!

So in my little world of shoppers there's three disappointed people who have hard feelings towards a retail store, not good.
