Whats the deal with hidden mickeys

Think of it like a scavenger hunt. Our kids really get into it. We have a photo from the Buzz Lightyear ride that shows our 10 YO son with this nose buried into a "hidden Mickey" book looking for clues about hidden Mickeys on the ride instead of blasting away on his laser cannon... it's priceless!

I don't know if there's a "point" to them but I think that the imagineers put them in the parks and resorts and such for fun and I know that my boyfriend and I sure have fun looking for them when we're in WDW

WHY? They're FUN!! We love looking for Hidden Mickey's . . . EVERYWHERE!! My DD even found one in Six Flags/Great Adventure!!! My girls are DISNEYFREAKS, TOO!!! (Yeah)! :cloud9:

I bought my husband the whole book about them for a Christmas gift. I think it'll help give the kids something to do in lines as well!

Geoff - I keep seeing your signature in various threads. You don't happen to be a Joseph fan do you? DH and DS11 performed in a version of it in Canton recently (DS was in the children's chorus, DH was Simeon and the Butler). We saw the one at the Masonic and are seeing another one in Ann Arbor in early January!

Is there such thing as a book with the locations of Hidden Mickeys? Would love to buy one for my son.

Here's a link to Amazon which has it. In case my link doesn't work, just go to Amazon.com and type Hidden Mickey:

They had the cheapest prices I've seen online. I paid the cover price at the store. Just a warning, the book is set up like a scavenger hunt - designed to have you run around the park searching for hidden mickeys. If you're not interested in doing it that way (I can't imagine who would be), you can use the index in the back to search for a specific ride. That's what I plan to do for my kids - just bring it in my backpack and pull it out when we get stuck in a line somewhere, not go out of our way to find them. Depending on the age of your son, the Birnbaum's "Disney for Kids, by Kids" also usually lists at least one per attraction. Not an exhaustive listing, but just a fun way to find some. Have fun!

Thanks for the advice about using the index!! I bought one for the kids for Christmas as well, but officially gave it to DH from the kids! ;) I also got the teen Disney book for 12-year-old-DS as well as some activity books for the two younger kids.

Lisa :D

Did you find a more recent teen Disney book than I could? My son is 12, almost 13, and the one they had in the stores was 1999 - not a Birnbaum's. Does Birnbaum's make a teen guide or were these just old leftovers at my bookstore? Thanks!

Imagineers can not sign there name on there work so they put hidden mickeys instead, in a way the mickey is there signiture.

The best thing about Hidden Mickeys to me is when I find one on my own, without remembering it from the book! I get so excited and proud of myself....my husband just smiles and nods at me, but that's normal. :earboy2:

You might want to take a look at your local library. At least I know that at our library down here we have plenty of Disney travel books including the Hidden Mickey book and the Birnbaum's books and also the Fodar travel book. Might help to check it out prior to actually buying the book.

I don't have the Hidden Mickey book, and don't know if it's listed, but one of the hidden mickeys that (relatively) few people know about is the one on the CM nametags. (I didn't even know about it until I had a guest come up and stare at my nametag, saying "Oh, I'm sorry, I'm just looking for the hidden mickey on your nametag"
