We are going to be on the Nov. 29 Eastern and I am seeing A LOT of posts from cruisers about seasickness??? We were on the Dec. 1 2002 Wonder and things were fine. DW got a little woozy on the first night of our Feb. 2000 Wonder sailing but with a little verandah fresh air and some dramamine she was fine. Are we just in one of those tropical storm times of the year. I don't remember reading of this last lear.........maybe I was to concerned with "the other illness".

According to the NOAA buoy data site, they are having sustained winds of 20+ knots in the northern Bahamas. That is probably kicking up some fairly high seas. The buoy that is 120 miles east of Port Canaveral is reporting seas running almost 10 feet. All this was current as of 11:00am EST on 11/14. Even though 10 feet is not all that high for a ship the size of the DCL ships, it would be high enough to make the ship roll.

Thanks.............is this common this time of the year, or is it a depression that is passing thru. I read that the 11/01 Magic was in 16-22ft seas and MANY people were sick.

We were on the 11/01 Magic and had 18 -24 foot seas the first and second days. The variety show the first night was pretty hard to watch since the curtain was swaying terribly -- people literally were crawling out of the theater after the show b/c it was so hard to walk straight!

Most of us were fine, my daughter got seasick during dinner, but once I took her to the club (very stable area, even with those seas) she was fine. I also used the seabands with her (the dramamine made her sick).

Mid-week on the way back from St. Thomas, we hit "moderate gale force winds" too -- that was a different motion though and didn't appear to cause the same sickness.

I'd just be prepared -- take some stuff just in case and always go out for some fresh air, that really helps.

Ron,
I've heard from a friend of a friend's second cousin that if you eat nothing but the peeling's from shrimp the first day, you will not suffer from seasickness. Don't know how true it is, but give it a try!

We have had a windy November in Florida coming from the Atlantic. I know it was blowing hard here when the cruise with the very high seas left. It has calmed down recently and hopefully the trend continues.

Here is a good site to check that gives Atlantic wave conditions:

One remedy that I don't see mentioned often is to take ginger tablets.

My DD had to take a ferry today. The water was very choppy because of the winds we've been experiencing. She said the ferry was rockin', people were getting sick all around her, but she was fine. She had taken the ginger capsules that I gave her. (She has felt sick on this trip in the past.)

Might be worth looking into if you have a problem with dramamine.

This is just probably the seasonal movement that brings the jet stream farther south.

It's been very windy this week in the northeast, too.

Ron,

Didn't they tell you the high seas remedy?

It's one mug of beer for every foot of seas... sure cure to sea sickness :sunny: !

We had some crazy high winds in the NE this week. We lost a huge evergreen due to this. Must just be a windy Fall this year.

I thought we were going to wind up in Oz this week. The wind is awful--I'm hoping it's all quieted both here and there by the time we go on our cruise!

Disneygator01...........Do do I strap the mug to my arm like the patch????

We did have some high seas on our first night out, but no one in my family was seasick. In fact, we found the rocking rather pleasant -- call us weird. We took along Bonnie, but didn't even open the box. However, quite a few tables were empty at dinner that night, and I overheard several people discussing their queasy feelings up on deck.

Izzenmac -- I'd rather be seasick than eat shrimp peelings!

My DP loves the shrimp tails. (not the peelings from the rest of the body though) She says they're good. I am shuddering just thinking about it...but then again, I must say she's never been seasick...

Hi! Just back from the 11/8 Magic Western. We didn't experience seas that were too bad during the week- pretty calm. Winds kicked up going into CC, but we were able to dock. It was a beautiful day & the wind died down. On the way back, crossing the gulf stream on the last evening we had 13ft + waves, so the ship was rocking pretty good. Didn't hear of anyone sick onboard. The Capt. did warn us after leaving CC so we were prepared for it.

We did have very wavy seas doing the Sting Rays in Grand Cayman because of the wind. The guys from Native Way said it's not unusual for this time of year. They said the spring & summer the water is as smooth as glass. It was strange being knocked around by waves & having all the sting rays all around you. We still had a great time! I even held one! I'd like to go back & do it again in calmer seas...

Ditto on the high waves in Stingray City. We went with Captain Bryan's (great trip - highly recommend this company and their gorgeous catamaran boat). My 3 kids were not afraid of the stingrays, but the high waves made them quite nervous. They all did much better when Captain Bryan's took us to the 2nd stop - snorkeling at the coral reef. The people from Captain Bryan's told us that waves that high were very unusual - usually it's very calm and, as Dianthus said, smooth as glass.

11/9 Wonder started out with very windy conditions at port - there was the edge of a cold front coming through - 35-40 mph winds and misty rain on and off - they cancelled the deck sail away party and they were delayed leaving because they had to be escorted by a tugboat and the Carnival ship went first.

We then had high seas for the first 5-6 hours of the cruise, swaying back and forth until we made it to the leeside of the Grand Bahamas around 11:30 pm. It was fairly rough returning on Wednesday night 11/12 and Thursday morning 11/13.

On the 11/16-11/20 Wonder ... we had "wavelets" for the first few days ... on our trip from Castaway Cay to Port C we went from wavelets to moderate to rough (up to 13 ft waves) and stayed at "rough" all night ... it was noticeable in the cabin (deck 6) but not bad (except when I made the mistake of watching the bridgecam, oops)
